Queenstown & Bungy Jumps
The first thing that comes to mind when people think of New Zealand is adventure tourism. Queenstown has been dubbed the 'adventure capital of the world' - so it is no surprise that it is here where the Bungy phenomenon all began. It started in the 80s when AJ Hackett and Henry van Asch developed and tested Bungy cords, both convinced that people would pay to experience the huge rush of adrenaline associated with Bungy. After extensive testing and with the help of Auckland University Scientists, the first jumps were made, and in November 1988, the World's first Commercial Bungy Operation opened at the Kawarau Bridge. Nearly 30 years later, over 3.5 million jumps have taken place, and AJ Hackett now operates the 'world's most innovative gravity related products anywhere on the planet'.
The Nevis Bungy
134 metres above the beautiful Nevis River stands the highest Bungy in New Zealand - the world renowned Nevis Bungy! This is truly a once in a lifetime experience and a must do adventure activity when in Queenstown. Not for the faint hearted, it is the third highest bungy jumping platform in the world with a height of 134 metres. Tick it off your bucket list and earn the right to tell people you've jumped the one and only Nevis.
Located in the Southern Alps 45 minutes out from Queenstown, the drive to the Bungy site alone is incredible. Take in the views and enjoy a moment of calm before you arrive and the reality of what you're about to do hits you! With adrenaline levels reaching sky high, you'll don your harness and enjoy a scenic view in the cable car as you're transported to the jump pod. Here, you'll take the leap and plummet 134 metres in 8 seconds (and scream for at least as long!)
Let you inner daredevil take control and go for it!
