Let our expert guides take you on a journey deep into the heart of Australia’s spectacular Top End. Hike through lush jungle, dive into turquoise swimming holes, climb majestic waterfalls, enjoy sweeping panoramas and come face to face with one of the world’s deadliest creatures as we explore all the highlights of the stunning Kakadu and Litchfield National Parks.
Day 1: Darwin to Kakadu National Park, via Adelaide River, Burrunggi (Nourlangie Rock) and Ikoymarrwa
We get off to a bright and early start, with pick up from your Darwin accommodation at 7am. Relax and enjoy the scenic drive out to Kakadu National Park, stopping en route at Adelaide River for an incredible Jumping Crocodile Cruise. Come face to face with one of the world’s deadliest creatures as we cruise through croc-infested waters on our private boat. Keep your cameras at the ready to capture these magnificent prehistoric beasts as they leap out of the water and watch in awe as some of Australia’s biggest and most beautiful birds of prey swoop down to get in on the action.
Once our beating hearts have subsided, it’s time to head to the incredible Kakadu National Park. Our first stop is Burunggi, where we will uncover the secrets of the past and connect with our ancestors. This unique site is home to some of the world’s earliest rock paintings, dating back over 20,000 years, including the famous Aboriginal Dreaming, with pictures of Namandi spirits, ancient hand prints and even images of the earliest Europeans to make it to Australia’s shores. This is one of the most sacred and important sites in Australia and provides an amazing insight into the history of the Northern Territories. Follow in the ancient footsteps of the Aborigines and check out the nearby Gunhardewarde, where the sweeping panoramas of the beautiful Kakadu National Park will make time stand still.
And, to top off a jam-packed day of history, culture, wildlife and thrill seeking adventure, we visit the breathtaking Ikoymarrwa (Moline Rockhole), where we have special permit access for a real off-the-beaten-track Kakadu experience. Check out the stunning vistas from the lookout point, swim in the secret grottos and hidden lagoons and trek through the lush virgin rainforest. As night falls, we return to our private safari camp, shelter from tropical storms and enjoy a good night’s sleep in our comfortable shared AC accommodation.
Day 2: Exploring the Yurmikmik Region: Boulder Creek Falls, Motor Car Falls, Kurrundi Falls, Gunlom Falls and Mary River
It’s another early start today as we cram in a full day of swimming, walking and sightseeing in the beautiful Yurmikmik Region of the Kakadu National Park. Today’s highlights include the breathtaking Boulder Creek Falls, the lush turquoise waters and steep cliffs of Motor Car Falls and the cascading Kurrundi Falls.
Swim in the plunge pools or hike to the top and admire the breathtaking drops and sweeping panoramas. Weather permitting, we’ll also check out Gunlom Falls, where the walk up leads to a stunning natural infinity pool where you can cool down in the crystal clear waters. After dark, we head back to our great AC accommodation and enjoy a traditional Aussie BBQ with crocodile, buffalo, and kangaroo!
Day 3: Litchfield National Park: Wangi Falls, Florence Falls, Buley Rockholes, Tolmer Falls and Darwin
We end our 3 day Northern Territories adventure with a whistlestop tour of Litchfield National Park, home to some of the most spectacular plants and wildlife in Australia. Check out the giant cathedral-esque termite mounds we pass on our drive in! Keep your eyes peeled as we wander through the jungle, exploring some of Litchfield’s most iconic waterfalls and swimming in the beautiful Buley Rockholes, a series of crystal clear natural pools and mini waterfalls in the middle of the jungle.
Marvel at the breathtaking Wangi Falls, dive into the plunge pool at the foot of Florence Falls and enjoy the lofty heights and great views atop Tolmer Falls. And after a long day of adventuring, enjoy the scenic views and comfortable ride as we head back to Darwin, arriving back in the city in the early evening.
