If you’re not a resident of the Northern Territory, then yes, you will need to obtain a Parks Pass before visiting Kakadu National Park. You can purchase your Parks Pass online through the NT government website. 

We recommend spending at least 3-4 days to fully experience the park’s highlights. However, even a day trip to Kakadu National Park promises all sorts of incredible sights and experiences.
 

While a 4WD is recommended for getting around the park’s more remote areas, you definitely don’t need one to explore the highlights. Many main attractions are accessible with a 2WD during the dry season, and there are plenty of walking tours throughout the park that allow you to explore this stunning destination on foot.
