Day 1: Darwin to Mary River, via Adelaide River, Burrunggi (Nourlangie Rock) and Ikoymarrwa
You're off to an early start today, with a pick up from your Darwin accommodation at 6:30 am. Relax and enjoy the scenic drive out to Kakadu National Park, stopping en route at Adelaide River for a Jumping Crocodile Cruise. Come face to face with one of the world’s deadliest creatures as you cruise through croc-infested waters on a private boat. Make sure your cameras are at the ready and keep an eye on the skies as giant birds of prey also try to get in on the action!
Next, it’s time to head to the incredible Kakadu National Park. Our first stop is Burunggi (Nourlangie Rock), where you'll uncover the secrets of the past and connect with our ancestors. This unique site is home to some of the world’s earliest rock paintings, dating back over 20,000 years, including the famous Aboriginal Dreaming, with pictures of Namandi spirits, ancient hand prints and even images of the earliest Europeans to make it to Australia’s shores. This is one of the most sacred and important sites in Australia and provides an amazing insight into the history of the Northern Territory. Follow in the ancient footsteps of the Aborigines and check out the nearby Nawurlandja, where the sweeping panoramas of Kakadu National Park will blow you away.
That afternoon, drop into the Warradjan Aboriginal Cultural Centre, to get a unique Aboriginal insight into the history of the region. Enjoy unique displays of photography, art and videos that depict the fascinating bond between nature and the oldest living civilization in the world.
As night falls, set up camp close to Mardugal Campground, enjoying a traditional Aussie BBQ with a taste of crocodile, buffalo, and kangaroo. You'll sit with your fellow travellers around a fire and share stories under the stars.
Day 2: Gunlom Falls, the Yurmikmik Region, Bowali Visitor Centre and Darwin
It’s another early start in Kakadu National Park with a full day of swimming, walking and sightseeing in the beautiful Yurmikmik Region. Today’s highlights include visiting Boulder Creek Falls, the lush waters and steep cliffs of Motor Car Falls and the cascading Kurrundi Falls.
Swim in plunge pools or hike to the top and admire the sweeping views. Weather permitting, you'll also check out Gunlom Falls (when accessible). Here, a scenic walk leads to a natural infinity pool where you can cool down in the clear waters.
Later, after a long day of adventuring, sit back, relax and enjoy the scenic afternoon drive through the Australian outback to Darwin. You will arrive back in the early evening.
