Darwin - Things to do

Darwin is located on Australia’s north coast and is by far the largest city in the Northern Territory. Darwin is the capital of this state, and almost 150,000 people live here. Darwin has a lot of compelling museums, a splendid botanic garden, and beaches to find relaxation.

Darwin is a superb place for tasting a variety of cuisines. The abundance of Asian restaurants has given the city the nickname ‘the laksa capital of Australia’. The seasonal Mindil Beach Sunset Market is the best spot to sample food from all over Asia. Still, local ingredients and dishes are represented at this lively hawker’s centre as well!

Darwin itself is fun, but there are heaps of locations to discover around the state’s capital. For example, in Kakadu National Park, a reserve that stretches out over almost 20,000 square kilometres. Kakadu National Park is home to crocodiles and other wildlife and is blessed with natural features such as red rock formations and waterfalls. The best way to reveal the secrets of this park is through a 3-day Darwin to Kakadu tour.

Litchfield National Park will leave you in awe for the same reasons. This much smaller conservation area south of Darwin has numerous waterfalls, massive termite mounds, and picturesque bush walks. All the best of the national park will be unwrapped in front of your eyes during the day tour of Litchfield National Park. To get the best of both Kakadu and Litchfield, combine them in one excellent trip!

Arnhem Land is a historic region east of Darwin. This area is mainly inhabited by indigenous people, who have been living here for thousands of years. You can gain knowledge about their culture and history through a tour of Arnhem Land. You’ll stop by art and craft centre and rock art, and you’ll meet the indigenous people of this area.

If Darwin is your first destination in Australia or you want to continue your Aussie journey, it’s possible to hop on multi-day tours to Alice Springs and Broome. Travelling this way allows you to see other highlights of the Northern Territory and Western Australia!
