Sometimes the easiest way to learn more about a culture and its people is through the food. In this class, you’ll learn all about the most delicious Cambodian desserts -- you’ll definitely want to take these recipes back home! While these desserts aren’t known worldwide (though they should be!), they remain the yummy secrets of locals -- but now, Chanra will teach you the ways! She is a local woman with huge talent in making handmade items and jewelry.
Chanra moved from a more rural area to Siem Reap and she and her husband care for 12 children who come from families who cannot afford to feed them. Most of her income comes from selling her handmade products and she supplements that income by teaching this Cambodian dessert class to tourists like you! By taking this course, not only will you have the opportunity to try out some tasty foods, but you’ll be providing a hopefully brighter future for children who really need the help.
Cambodian desserts are very complex and sophisticated, sure to surprise all of your taste buds! However complex they may taste, these desserts are actually quite simple to prepare -- especially when you have such a patient and lovely teacher like Chanra! In this hands-on class, you’ll learn that most of these local desserts are made with varying amounts of coconut, either in the form of milk, shavings, or fresh coconut meat. (Cambodians love their coconuts!) Yet, even though most dishes are created with the same base ingredient of coconut, they each create a very distinct taste so that all of the dishes are very unique. Come try it for yourself and please your palette!
You will have the choice of four desserts to learn to make in this course with Chanra, including:
Corn in Coconut milk
Green bean sweet
Pumpkin with custard
Sticky rice with custard
Anything you choose is sure to be a hit. Chanra will walk you through the steps of how to make whichever you pick and you’ll feel like a pro in Cambodian desserts in no time! Definitely bring a notebook and pen if you want to write down any of the recipes to take back with you -- what better souvenir to bring back home than the recipe to a delicious dessert?!
