Need a little time to relax and soothe your muscles? Franz Josef Glacier Hot Pools are nestled in the rainforest at the base of Franz Josef Glacier. Dip into three different pools ranging in temperature from 36 to 40 degrees Celcius. The water is heated by two 550 kilowatt LPG boilers, and each pool is approximately one metre deep.
Each of the three main pools is gifted in their names by a local Maori tribe, Te Runanga o Makaawhio:
Te Puna Mahaki: The pool of calmness
Te Puna Makoha: The pool of tranquillity
Te Puna Marino: The pool of serenity
This is a great way to relax and rejuvenate after a day of hiking. Your muscles will instantly relax in the warm water. The main pools are available as a single entry day pass, so you can spend hours in this calm environment.

The hot pools are outside among the rainforest with shade covers overhead.
Both towels and swimwear are available to hire for a cost of $5. Of course you are more than welcome to bring your own.
The water is cleaned by both filtration and disinfection with Chlorine. The complex pools use a system of multimedia sand filtration, with low pH Chlorine which is automatically dosing to 2.5ppm. Each of the public pools has its total volume of water turned over every 60mins, as does the main balance tank for the private pools.

Lockers are available outside the changing rooms costing $2. In addition, there are cubbyholes by the poolside - items left here are done so at the owner's risk.
