Broome - Things to do

Broome is located in the tropical northwest of Australia, halfway between Perth and Darwin. This town has around 15,000 inhabitants, but this number significantly increases during the tourist season, when many backpackers flock in Broome to cruise along the coast or enjoy scenic flights.

The Dampier Peninsula, which sits just north of Broome, is a dream spot for beach bums and those in for an outdoors adventure. This peninsula can be visited through the Cape Leveque and Kimberley Coast tour, which gives you a very complete overview of the region. You get a sense of Aboriginal history in the Beagle Bay settlement, tramp over scenic trails, join a cruise, and visit the pearl farm of Cygnet Bay.

Broome can be considered as the tourist capital of northwest Australia, as a result of an endless list of activities you can do here. You can go on a fishing tour on the Indian Ocean and see the bushlands, beaches and bays of this region from the sky through a scenic flight!

A popular next stop for many backpackers is Darwin, the capital of the Northern Territory. If you wish to go here and do it the fun way, you can fasten your seatbelt and go on a 4WD adventure that takes you from Broome to Darwin in 10 days. A slightly shorter version of this tour is the 9-day journey to Darwin from Broome. Both routes take you on a rollercoaster ride along deep canyons, jaw-dropping waterfalls, and barren areas of wilderness.

Once you’ve arrived in Darwin, you can dive deeper into actual Aussie expeditions and delve into the Northern Territory! Discover the wilderness of the grand Kakadu National Park, learn more about Aboriginal culture in Arnhemland or interact with local wildlife in Litchfield National Park

Whether you briefly pass by Broome or settle down for a bit, Broome won’t bore you for a second. With the fantastic nature and plenty of beaches, this town works like a magnet for outdoor lovers, and it certainly makes you want to stay longer!
