What to Expect
A trip to Adelaide is not complete without a day tour to the Barossa Valley Wine Tasting Tours– one of the most celebrated wine regions in the world. Take in stunning views of the vine-dense valley and meet the locals as you visit five different wineries and taste some of the best fortified wines in the world.
9:00 am (approx): Arrive in Gumeracha
The first stop on our trip is Gumeracha, a small town situated in the scenic Adelaide Hills. The most notable attraction of Gumeracha is its rocking horse, which is the biggest in the world, as well as Australia’s only remaining wooden toy factory. It also boasts a café and lots of native, tame wildlife such as kangaroos, goats and alpacas, which enjoy being hand-fed.
9:45 am: Arrive at Whispering Wall
We make our way towards Williamstown, the gateway to the Barossa Valley and home to the ‘Whispering Wall’ – a structure built 110 years ago that is as tall as a 9-storey building and erected in a perfect semi-circle. It gets its name from the fact that it is possible to hear someone whisper from one end of the wall to the other, a lengthy 140 metres away.
10:30 am (approx): Jacob's Creek Visitor Centre
Soon, the gum trees become sparse and the vine leaves more apparent as we enter the biggest and most celebrated wine region in Australia – the Barossa Valley. Our first stop is Jacob’s Creek, the largest exporter in the valley famed for its Shiraz, Merlot and rosé. You will receive an informative explanation about the wines and the winemaking process by a local guide and be offered a selection of them for tasting.
11:30 am: Arrive at Kies
Kies is a quaint, family-owned boutique winery with exquisite wines that aren't available for sale anywhere else in the world.
12:35 pm: Lunch at Saltram's
By now you’ll probably be feeling peckish so we’ll head to Saltram’s for gourmet pizzas– where you’ll get the chance to taste some more wine on a cellar door tour.
1:45 pm: Arrive at Wolf Blass
After our lunch break, we’ll make our way towards Wolf Bass– a world-renowned winery created in 1966 by the German migrant, Wolfgang Blass. These days, it is one of the most awarded wine brands and you’ll get the chance to taste a wide range of their wines before popping into our last winery of the day.
2:30 pm (approx): the Lambert Estate
The Lambert Estate is a family owned business that made their name thanks to their Chocolate Port. Before heading back to Adelaide, we’ll round up the day by stopping at Mengler’s Hill lookout for stunning panoramic views of the Barossa Valley.
Expect to be back in Adelaide Central at approximately 5-5:30 pm.
Please note this tour can't visit the Whispering Wall on days when there is a fire ban.
Water is supplied at each of the cellar doors you visit. As you'll be drinking plenty of wine, please take advantage of this and remember to drink responsibly. Drunken/rude behaviour will not be tolerated. Consumption of alcohol is not permitted on the bus.
