What to Expect

If you're looking for an excellent apres-ski or pre-dinner activity, this short but sweet 2 hr wine tasting tour is perfect! It's also great if you're short on time but still want to savour some delicious Central Otago wines.

You'll get picked up from your accommodation for a fun and informative "mini-tour" of the local vineyards. Stop in at two wineries or cellar doors for tastings at each.

There are several different wineries available. These vary from iconic wineries with breathtaking views to boutique wineries not generally open to the public, where you will have an opportunity to speak to the winemaker or vineyard owner while tasting their wines. Some of the local wineries include Rippon, Bannock Brae Winery, Aitken's Folly Vineyard, Wooing Tree, and Swallows Crossing Vineyard.

As a part of the Central Otago wine region, Wanaka is known best for its excellent cool climate Pinot Noir. However, it also makes some superb Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, and Riesling.

Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to wear something comfortable. Wineries generally don't have strict dress codes, so smart casual is perfect. It can get a bit cold, so layers are recommended for the best comfort. Bring a camera to snap some pictures of the fantastic vineyard views and sun protection for the late afternoon sun. If you think you might buy wine to take home, don't forget your wallet!

The wineries you visit will vary depending on opening hours and availability. They might include Rippon, Aitken's Folly Vineyard, Swallows Crossing Vineyard, Wooing Tree, Aurum Wines, Chard Farm, Carrick Winery & Vineyards, or Wild Earth Wines Ltd.
