Avoid the big crowds and experience the famous Great Ocean Road in a friendly, small group. With stunning nature, scenic views and coastal drives this is a trip you'll never forget.
Travelling in a different direction to the majority of the other buses leaving Melbourne, this Reverse Great Ocean Road tour shows you all the highlights without the crowds. A longer drive through the back country roads in the morning means you'll arrive at famous Port Campbell National Park and the 12 Apostles long before other buses show up.
Start the trip with a stop in Colac, where you'll enjoy complimentary morning tea and coffee, before hitting the road to the main sights.
Take some time to admire the amazing limestone stack formations of the 12 Apostles or add in a helicopter ride here! If taking to the skies isn't for you, spend your time walking along the boardwalks and capture some perfect photos of the 12 Apostles in the morning sun.
Afterwards, wend your way along Shipwreck Coast to Loch Ard George, and hear the dramatic shipwreck tale that accompanies this serene location. Walk down on to the beach and get the sand in-between your toes, or walk out over the top of the George and find the Island Archway and Razorback rock formations.
Next, enjoy a fresh sandwich lunch as the other tourist buses start to arrive... you won't be with the crowds for long, however! The tour continues east along the Great Ocean Road, moving inland through towering Eucalyptus trees to an area of cool temperate rainforest.
You'll be amazed at the difference in scenery as you take a walk through the tree ferns and marvel at the 'ancient relics' - the Myrtle Beach trees. These towering trees provide perfect canopy shade and can be traced back to when Australia was part of a super continent known as Gondwanaland. Breath in the fresh rainforest air before hopping back in the bus to continue travelling to the beautiful Surf Coast.
Your beach adventure starts with a visit to at Apollo Bay later in the afternoon, the perfect time to sample an ice cream or pick up some postcards. Admire the Southern Ocean to your right, and watch for surfers out in the water.
As you travel this coastal stretch, stop for pictures along the way and have the chance time to look for Koalas sleeping in the trees. If you are really lucky you might even find one awake!
Moving along the Surf Coast, you'll also pass through the townships of Lorne, Aireys Inlet and Anglesea. Your guide will tell you about the history of this area and the story behind the building of this initial part of the Great Ocean Road. Learn about the soldiers who dedicated this construction to their fallen comrades from WWI.
Later, you'll stop at the Memorial Arch which holds a monument to the soldiers. The iconic arch over the road here also makes the perfect backdrop for your photos.
Next, there's time for some more wildlife spotting as dusk settles in and the local marsupials become more active. Keep your eyes out for furry friends as you make your way back to Melbourne city.
You'll arrive back at approximately 9.00pm. There is a translation app available for download for the tour.
