This 3-day Outback camping safari offers a true off-the-beaten-track Aussie adventure. Experience the highlights of Kakadu National Park, uncover the fascinating history the Northern Territories and witness breathtaking storms as the monsoon brings the jungle and the waterfalls to life before your eyes.
Let our expert guides lead the way as we trek through the jungle, dive into crystal clear natural pools and get up close & personal with giant saltwater crocodiles, see some of the oldest rock paintings in the word, take in sweeping panoramas and enjoy the stunning scenery of the timeless Kakadu National Park.
Day 1: Darwin to Kakadu National Park, wildlife cruise on the Mary River and Ubirr Rock
We start our journey through the Aussie outback with a bright and early pick up from your Darwin accommodation. Relax, sit back and enjoy the scenic drive as we head to Adelaide River to embark on our wildlife cruise. Witness the giant saltwater crocodile in its natural habitat, check out flying foxes and giant birds of prey, scan the thriving riverbanks for local wildlife and relax as the world passes you by.
We continue our adventure to Kakadu National Park with a beautiful drive across the Marrakai floodplains. This afternoon we check out Ubirr, a fascinating Aboriginal site with ancient rock paintings dating back over 20,000 years. Take in the unique scenery on the climb up to the rocky outcrop and be rewarded with majestic panoramas of the Arnhem Land standstone plateau and views of the entire National Park. As night falls, we head back to our aircon safari camp to cook dinner over the fire, share stories under the stars and marvel a the powerful storms during monsoon season at the Top End.
Day 2: Kakadu National Park, Twin Falls, Jim Jim Falls, Budjimi Lookout and the Arnhemland Escarpment
Our second day of exploring kicks off with some real off-roading as we journey through the jungle on our way to Twin Falls. We cross over Jim Jim Creek and cruise through Twin Falls gorge, admiring the towering cliffs, ancient rock paintings and waterfalls. Take the escarpment walk to the top of the falls for a swim away from the crowds, or just relax and enjoy a beautiful sandy beach and a dip in the plunge pool.
Climbing back into the 4x4, we journey on through the rainforest on our way to the beautiful Budjimi lookout, where we enjoy sweeping panoramas across the ancient Arnhem Land escarpment. This afternoon, we trek through monsoonal vine forests and rocky outcrops to the 150 metre- high Jim Jim Falls, the iconic image of Kakadu National Park.
After dark, we head back to our campsite at Garnamarr, at the base of the escarpment. Feast on a traditional Aussie BBQ with crocodile, buffalo and kangaroo and enjoy a late night camping in the outback.
Day 3: Kakadu National Park, the Warradjan Cultural Centre, Maguk (Barramundi Gorge), the White Lily Billabong and Darwin
Our final day’s adventuring gets off to an early start as we head to the Warradjan Cultural Centre to learn more about the local Aboriginal people of Kakadu National Park and uncover the history of the Northern Territories region.
Next up, we climb back in the 4x4s and make our way to the spectacular Maguk (Barramundi Falls), an incredible rocky waterfall surrounded by jungle. The walk to the waterfall passes through a paperback forest, home to some of Kakadu’s native flora and fauna, before turning into a dry and arid lunar landscape moments before you reach Maguk Falls. Take pictures, cool off in the blue waters, get your aching muscles massaged by the waterfall and enjoy the views from the top.
Relax, sit back and reminisce about our incredible 3-day adventure on the scenic drive back to Darwin, with a short stop en route at the beautiful White Lily Billabong. Capture one last glimpse of Kakadu National Park and keep your eyes peeled for wildlife before we head back to Darwin at around 5:30 pm.
