Frequently Asked Questions

Australia has a relaxed attitude to standards of dress. However, depending on the time of year you are travelling, you may need to be prepared for the extremes. Temperatures in Southern Australia in winter (June, July, and August) can get quite cold, with daytime temperatures from 10 to 18 degrees Celsius and nighttime temperatures can reach zero. Please ensure you pack appropriately. You’ll be nice and snug when travelling in the vehicles and staying in your accommodation but for the outdoor activities you’ll need warm jackets and a raincoat, just in case.

In summer, daytime temperatures can be extreme from November to April, generally in the 30s but sometimes reaching over 40 degrees Celsius. Be prepared to endure extra physical stress due to the heat at these times, especially while on walks. If travelling in summer, we recommend that you bring loose, cool, cotton clothing to protect yourself from the harsh sun. A sun hat, sunscreen and sunglasses are a must.

Small group tours and charters depending on group size will travel in a Toyota Commuter (14 people) or Toyota Coaster Bus (20 people).

Something to keep in mind is here in Australia everyone is used to driving long distances on holiday, but you may not be. Take for example our 10-day Perth to Adelaide trip, this is about the same distance from Spain to Poland. Yes, it’s a big country! However, that’s why seeing Australia from the ground is better. It's a country that has it all; stunning coastline and beaches, the outback, tropical rainforests, and some seriously amazing landscapes and wildlife. While you may spend some days in the vehicle a little longer than others getting to the next destination, it’s worth it!

The Operator is happy to cater to passengers with most special diets but these and or food allergies MUST be informed at the time of booking. Some of the food for the trip is purchased prior to commencement and special requirements cannot be catered for after departing. If you have not notified The Operator prior to departure, you may be asked to pay for any additional food yourself. Many of the meals are at restaurants, so it is also beneficial if your guide can advise them prior to your arrival.

This adventure tour is best suited to travellers who love nature, hiking, and spending time outdoors, with a good dose of fun and group camaraderie. To get the most out of your experience, please consider the following:

Fitness requirements: A moderate level of fitness is needed. On some days, you may be walking between 3 and 12 km, often on uneven ground and in hot or wet conditions.

Mobility considerations: While there's no upper age limit, all travellers should selfassess their mobility and comfort with activities such as hiking, swimming, and swag camping. You'll need to be able to lift yourself from ground level, as swags are traditional ground-based bedding.

Medical conditions: If you have any mobility concerns or pre-existing health conditions, we strongly recommend speaking with your doctor before booking. Please also us of any relevant conditions prior to travel, so we can offer the right support.

Fit for Travel declaration: All travellers must complete an online check-in, including a mandatory 'Fit for Travel' declaration, at least 24 hours before departure. This confirms you are free from illness and physically able to join the tour.

This is a participatory camping tour, meaning guests are expected to get involved by helping with basic tasks, such as meal preparation and packing up camp.

Accommodation includes a mix of national parks and bush campgrounds. Most campgrounds offer basic toilet and shower facilities, except for the one-night camping on the Nullarbor, where we don't have any amenities.

Please note that Mikkira Station Koala Sanctuary doesn't permit camping during high fire danger periods. This is most likely to be between November and March. If we cannot stay there, we will camp at one of our other locations, such as Bay View Park, which also has one shower and toilet.

When camping, you'll sleep in a traditional Aussie swag—a sturdy canvas bed roll with a built-in mattress, used under the stars or in wet weather tents.

Sleeping bags: Please bring your own sleeping bag and pillow.

Weather conditions: Be prepared for extreme weather, including high temperatures, cold temperatures, and exposure to the elements. In the event of wet weather, group tents will be provided for shared shelter. Should extreme weather affect the camping experience, alternative accommodation may be arranged. Any additional costs will be shared 50/50 between Untamed Escapes and guests.
