What to Expect
Join your local host to taste and explore a bit of everything Sydney's bustling Chinatown has to offer. This 2.5-hour walking tour is perfect for couples, solo travellers, small groups and families who wish to learn about Australia's Chinese community while snacking on delicious Chinese street food!
As you explore Chinatown, you’ll be introduced to several Chinese Australians, starting from the first Chinese settler to arrive in Australia over 200 years ago. Along the way, you’ll sample a range of snacks from some of Chinatown’s best restaurants, with a minimum of four food stops included. All snacks are street foods that represent different parts of China and are designed to be eaten on the go.
This tour has a strong focus on uncovering Sydney's long connection with China, and the contributions Chinese Australians have made to the community. You will learn more on this tour about Australia's Chinese community than you could possibly imagine, and "pub trivia" style games will keep it interactive and fun.
At the end of the tour, you’ll get a souvenir to take home, plus a great map and guide to Chinatown, covering all the best restaurants and what to order. With small groups kept to a maximum of 12, mouth-watering food, interesting stories and a great way to support local businesses - this is one of the most memorable experiences in Sydney!
Tour departs from outside Paddy's Markets at the start of Dixon St Mall at 11.30 am. Please arrive 10 minutes prior to departure.
Frequently Asked Questions
Please bring a water bottle and comfortable walking shoes, as we are standing or walking for most of the tour. We recommend bringing some cash as well as a credit card for extra purchases.
The tour starts outside Paddy's Markets, directly across from the southern end of Dixon St mall. If you're looking across the light rail tracks and you can see Emperor's Garden restaurant (not Emperor's Garden BBQ!), Covent Garden hotel and the Chinatown red gates, you're in the right spot.
For nearby parking, you can park at the Wilson Parking lot in Market City.
For public transport, it is just 10 minute's walk from Central train station. You can also get a bus to the nearby Railway Square.
We run tours, rain or shine. If it’s looking a bit rainy, bring your umbrella, grab your poncho, and get ready to have fun. We will never let a little rain stop us.
With that said, safety comes first. If weather creates a safety concern, either before or during the experience, we may cancel the tour. In this case, we will either reschedule the tour or issue a full refund.
Yes, the Sydney Chinatown walking tour is wheelchair and baby-stroller friendly!
The tour is appropriate for children, depending on their age. It is shorter in distance and duration than other tours (approximately 1km of walking over 2-2.5 hours), but given the content of the stories focusing on Australian-Chinese history, we would recommend it for children aged 8 and above.

- Children from 4 - 17 years are to pay child's fare accordingly
