Yes, there are sharks in every ocean, and a variety of sharks inhabit The Great Barrier Reef. The most common are smaller species that pose no threat to divers or snorkellers. The most infamous Australian shark, the Great White, prefers the cold water of the Southern Ocean and does not visit the waters of Tropical North Queensland.

You will need to bring swimwear, a towel, a dive medical if required, and a passport or Australian driver&#39;s licence.&nbsp;

Student numbers are capped at 6 students for every 1 instructor.&nbsp;

Some medical conditions may prevent you from diving. You will be required to obtain a dive medical certificate if you have a positive response to any of the questions on the Entry Level Student Diver Medical Declaration.

 
A positive response to any question indicates that there is a pre-existing condition that may affect your safety while diving and you must consult a medical practitioner preferably with experience in diving medicine to obtain a dive medical certificate, preferably in English, which states that you are fit to undertake recreational diver training. This medical certificate must be valid within 90 days of course commencement. If you are unsure about a specific medical condition please check with your doctor prior to making your reservation.

Diving is not permitted if you haven&#39;t passed your dive medical.&nbsp;

The recommendation is to allow at least 24 hours after your last dive before flying. However, you can fly and then dive on the same day.

Scuba diving is the ultimate adventure and the best way to explore the magnificence of the Great Barrier Reef. This 3-Day Learn to Dive Course with eLearning (PADI Open Water Certification) is ideal for those ready to get certified but short on time.

The online eLearning platform allows you to complete the theory component of the course at your own convenience before arriving. Within 24hrs of your booking being confirmed, you will receive login details for the online PADI eLearning platform. This gives you access to the compulsory theory component of your open water certification, and you MUST complete it&nbsp;before practical pool training can start.&nbsp;Doing so reduces the amount of time spent in a classroom by a full day, allowing the entire course to be completed in three days.&nbsp;

Along with the eLearning component, the course comprises one day of pool training at the 5 Star PADI IDC dive facility, followed by two full-day trips to the Outer Barrier Reef aboard one of a custom-built adventure dive catamarans. Students will complete four compulsory training dives&nbsp;and two pleasure dives at some of the most pristine dive sites on the outer reef, filled with vibrant marine life. &nbsp;&nbsp;

The trips to the reef visit some of more than a dozen sites on the Agincourt ribbon reef that runs parallel to the continental shelf. Destinations might include Harry&#39;s Bommie, the 3 Sisters, The Chapel, The Point, Gary&#39;s Gut, The Gap, Two Rocks, Wreck Bay, Phils, The Gardens, Barracuda Bommie, Horsehose, Turtle Bay, The Maze, Nursery North or Triggerfish. The reef chosen will depend on tide and weather conditions, but all offer exceptional diving experiences.&nbsp;

Dive Medical Information

When diving in Australia there are different regulations and requirements compared to those in other countries. The following rules apply in Queensland:

Introductory Dives:&nbsp;You will need to fill in a Medical Questionnaire. If answering YES to any question it will not necessarily disqualify you from diving, but will indicate the need for a medical assessment by a qualified physician prior to diving that conforms to Australian Medical Standard AS4005-1.

Experienced/Certified Divers:&nbsp;Prior to diving, you may be asked to fill out a Medical Questionnaire; this is not a legal requirement but is done in the your own best interests.

The purpose of the questionnaire is to determine whether you should be examined by a doctor. There may be a pre-existing condition that has not stopped you from diving in your own country, but Australian laws do not allow; or perhaps there could be a new condition developed since you became qualified to dive which may well affect your safety while diving.

If you answer YES to any of the conditions listed on the Medical Questionnaire, we recommend you see a physician for further assessment in order to scuba dive. It is best to visit a physician whilst in Australia, as this medical will comply with Australian Standards (AS4005.1).

Scuba diving is an exciting and demanding activity. To scuba dive safely, you must not be extremely overweight or out of condition. Diving can be strenuous under certain conditions. Your respiratory and circulatory systems must be in good health. All body spaces must be normal and healthy. A person with heart trouble, a current cold or congestion, epilepsy, asthma, a severe medical problem, or is who under the influence of alcohol or drugs, should not dive. If taking medication, consult your doctor before taking part in this program.

Dive Medical Questionnaire

The purpose of this Medical Questionnaire is to find out if you should be examined by a physician before participating in recreational diving. A positive response to a question does not necessarily disqualify you from diving. A positive response means there is a pre-existing condition that may affect your safety while diving and you must seek the advice of a physician.

Please answer the following questions on your past and present with a YES or NO. If you are not sure, answer YES. If any of these items apply to you, we must request that you consult with a physician prior to participating in scuba diving. Your instructor will supply you with a PADI Medical Statement and Guidelines for Recreational Scuba Diver&rsquo;s Physical Examination to take to a physician.

Dive Safety Information

General Fitness:

Divers should have a reasonable level of physical fitness to cope with the environmental stresses of being underwater. The environmental factors that place a physiological strain on the diver include:

<ul>
	<li>
	Exertion required for propulsion through the surrounding water
	</li>
	<li>
	Heat loss to water that is generally colder than body temperature
	</li>
	<li>
	Breathing gas of compressed density
	</li>
	<li>
	Changes in the cardiorespiratory system from using underwater breathing gear
	</li>
	<li>
	Changes in the gas volume and pressure within air spaces in the body eg; ears, stomach, etc
	</li>
	<li>
	Introduction into the body of gases that can have toxic, narcotic, stimulatory or gas solubility effects on bodily functions.
	</li>
	<li>
	The human body, in reasonable condition and without injury or illness, can deal with the effects of most of these factors.
	</li>
</ul>

&nbsp;

Flying After Diving:

The pressure of diving causes nitrogen to go into solution in the blood, and it is the decrease in pressure as the diver returns to the surface that causes this nitrogen to come back out of solution over time and to bubble. A rapid ascent to the surface can cause complications as it represents too fast a transition across a pressure gradient for the body to effectively compensate for. Ascending to a high altitude after the dive is simply a continuation of your post-dive ascent to the surface and can also lead to decompression sickness.

It&rsquo;s recommended that you should wait at least 12 hours after a single dive, or 24 hours after multiple dives within the no-decompression limits before you travel to more than 300m (or 1,000 feet) above sea level. Bear in mind that driving over a mountain range would also put you over this suggested altitude limit.

Alcohol:

Drinking alcohol before and during diving trips endangers not only yourself but your diving buddy. Alcohol reduces the ability of the individual to process information and impairs their ability in terms of:

	Alcohol also cause dehydration which is considered to be one of the prime causes of decompression illness. Do not consume alcohol before diving or water activities.
	</li>
</ul>

Conditions of Carriage

A ticket is issued by The Operator (hereinafter called &ldquo;the company&rdquo;) and accepted by the passenger subject to the following terms and conditions:

	The ticket entitles the passenger to transportation as indicated on the face hereof (hereinafter called &lsquo;the service&rsquo;) subject to the terms and conditions hereinafter appearing.
	</li>
	<li>
	The company reserves the right to cancel or vary the service in any way whatsoever without any liability to the passenger.
	</li>
	<li>
	This ticket is not transferable and must be presented to the company to enable the passenger to travel on the service.
	</li>
	<li>
	The company is not a common carrier and reserves the right at its own discretion to refuse to carry any passenger or goods without assigning any reason.
	</li>
	<li>
	The passenger shall not take onto the vessel or include in his/her luggage any explosives, volatile spirits, corrosives, any easily ignitable article or offensive thing likely to cause inconvenience to other passengers or to endanger the vessel, other passengers or goods. The passenger indemnifies the company for any loss and damage caused by or arising from the carriage of the passenger&#39;s goods.
	</li>
	<li>
	The company accepts no responsibility for loss, damage or injury to luggage or loss, damage or injury to the passenger arising out of or in any way incidental or connected to the service or the accommodation of the passenger or the transfer of any luggage between the vehicle and/or the vessel and/or any place of accommodation by events which are beyond our control or which are not preventable by reasonable diligence on our part.
	</li>
	<li>
	The passenger shall comply with the instructions of the company&rsquo;s servants and agents concerning all matters connected with the service and shall comply with any notice exhibited on the vessel.
	</li>
	<li>
	The passenger whilst on the vessel shall not consume any intoxicating beverage unless it has been supplied to him/her on board by servants of the company.
	</li>
	<li>
	The company shall not be liable for any loss, damage or injury which may arise or be alleged to arise in the event of the cancellation of the service or the abandonment of the service during the course thereof (should the company or any of its servants or agents in their absolute discretion decide that such abandonment is necessary) or of any deviation or delay in the service arising from any cause whatsoever. In any such event the company shall not be liable in any way for the cost of any accommodation or for any alternative means of travel which may arise and any additional expense so arising shall be the sole liability and responsibility of the passenger.
	</li>
	<li>
	The company may arrange for any other person to undertake the service and such person shall be entitled to the benefit of these conditions to the same extent as the company as if such person were a party to this contract.
	</li>
	<li>
	The company reserves the right, in the event of a ticket or booking being cancelled by the passenger, to charge cancellation fees in accordance with the company&rsquo;s current scale of refunds.
	</li>
	<li>
	This contract is subject to and shall be construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Queensland and the passenger agrees to submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the Courts of the State.&nbsp;
	</li>
	<li>
	These conditions of carriage shall be read and construed subject to the&nbsp;Competition and Consumer Act&nbsp;2010 (Commonwealth) and any amending legislation.
	</li>
	<li>
	No condition of carriage other than set out in this ticket will be recognized. This contract may only be varied by agreement in writing between the company and the passenger. Note:- &ldquo;verbal promises by booking agents or clerks are not binding on the company and will not be recognized by the company.&rdquo;
