WHAT TO EXPECT
This 2-day eco-certified tour takes in the highlights of Tasmania’s East Coast. Get ready to experience gleaming white-sand beaches, inviting turquoise waters and orange lichen-covered granite boulders. These two magical days take us to the premier locations of the Bay of Fires and Freycinet National Park where there are great hiking options to suit your fitness level, such as the Wineglass Bay Lookout, Mt Amos, secluded beaches, and Cape Tourville. You’ll love meeting the Tasmanian devil and other unique wildlife at a premium wildlife sanctuary. There’s also plenty of time to explore the tranquil seaside fishing village of Bicheno (our overnight stay)!
Day 1: HOBART > BICHENO Approaching the East Coast we’ll travel through historic sheep and wheat stations in the agricultural midlands of Tasmania, steeped in convict and bushranger history. We’ll enjoy lunch at the fishing port of St Helens before reaching the stunning Bay of Fires, with its pristine white sands, crystal clear waters and burnt-orange boulders. This is an idyllic place to swim in good weather or simply kick off your shoes and wander along the white sands. Heading south along the Great Eastern Drive we’ll experience breathtaking coastal scenery. We’ll visit a terrific wildlife sanctuary to get up close to the Tasmanian devil as well as other local wildlife. Our overnight stay is within the picturesque coastal fishing village of Bicheno. Here you can explore at your leisure the sensational coastal views, sample the local fish and chips, or try your luck at spotting whales from the shore (in season). If wildlife is your passion, you may wish to view little penguins arriving to shore from the sea as part of the guided little penguin tour (own cost).
Day 2: FREYCINET NATIONAL PARK > HOBART Here it is, the world-renowned Freycinet National Park. We beat the crowds by arriving early to explore this paradise. Walk to the Lookout for panoramic views over Wineglass Bay. Then, you can choose to relax at Wineglass Bay beach, or if you are looking for something more adventurous, choose the challenging climb of Mt Amos or take a beach walk. We will also enjoy stunning views from Cape Tourville out to the Tasman Sea and back towards the pink granite peaks of the Hazards Mountains. Freycinet has more than stunning scenery to offer, and our guide will enlighten you throughout the day as to why this particular region is so special. Departing Freycinet, the road trip continues as we pass vineyards, farmlands, and stunning coastal scenery, arriving in Hobart later that afternoon.
Hostel Dorm style accommodation is based on same gender dormitory rooms with shared same gender bathrooms. Own toiletries and towels are required.
Hostel Twin/Double and Single rooms have shared same gender bathrooms.
Motel style accommodation is based on private Motel rooms or self-contained Cabins with private bathroom facilities.
If booking Twin or Double accommodation options, a minimum of 2 persons is required. We are unable to match up single travellers into a Twin share option.

What sort accommodation is included?
We offer a range of accommodation options to suit your budget!
The accommodation included in the base tour price is for a dormitory room in a hostel. The places we use throughout Tasmania are small, quiet and comfortable and we place our guests in same sex dormitory rooms. If you prefer more privacy and or comfort, you can choose a private twin/double or single room at the hostel or a nearby hotel/motel for an additional cost.
We visit some incredible places throughout Tasmania, and wherever possible get out of the bus to explore. While most of our trips are active in nature our guides aim to offer walks that cater for all types of fitness with easy, medium and hard walking options.
Bring clothing that suits the season, while including warm clothes (it can get cold in the mountains), comfortable walking shoes, toiletries, a towel, hat, sunscreen, waterproof jacket, swimsuit, water bottle and camera. Luggage is restricted to one normal pack, bag or case (20kg) plus a small day pack.
The tours that we offer are designed to help you see as much of Tasmania as possible with like minded travelers. There is no maximum age provided you have a good sense of adventure and a reasonable level of fitness, however we do have a minimum age of 8 years old to ensure all passengers get the most from the tour!
We included everything we believe is needed to have a great time in Tasmania while keeping our prices as low as possible. There are no extra charges or fees on any of our tours so the only expenses you’ll have throughout the tour will be extra meals not included, optional extras or souvenirs from the great places you’ll visit. Under Down Under is supportive of the use of masks to help stop the spread of COVID-19. Masks are advocated by the World Health Organisation as a physical barrier to help prevent community transmission. Wearing a mask while travelling on aircraft or where physical distancing is not possible may help protect against potential spread. We will be guided by our local public health authorities as to whether masks should always be worn. Please bring your own masks on tour, and learn how to safely wear, wash, and dispose of masks prior to coming on tour.
What are you doing to improve standards of hygiene on tours?
We have carefully reviewed all our policies and adopted recommended best practice cleaning and sanitation procedures from WorkSafe and in accordance to government guidelines, and we have implemented new staff training. In addition, we have instigated pre-tour ‘fit for travel’ health assessments, new procedures for dealing with potential health issues on tour, and contactless/no touch payments.
What if someone else on my tour tests positive or is suspected of having COVID-19?
Any guest that has symptoms of COVID-19 while on tour will be assisted by our staff to get medical assistance. We will abide by the guidance of local health authorities. This may or may not require testing, self-isolating or quarantine for the individual and/or others on the tour. Please be aware that while we will assist any and all guests that require medical care or other support, any expenses incurred for treatment, testing or quarantine will need to be covered by the guest or guests affected.
Please bring a supply of hand sanitiser. We shall provide some on our tour vehicle and your accommodations will have some accessible; however, having your own supply will ensure that you have some protection during free time when you are exploring on your own.
Will I need to be tested for COVID-19 before travel?
Prior to travel, it is essential that you let our office know if you experience any symptoms of COVID-19, have been in isolation, or are known to have been in contact with someone that is suspected or has had COVID-19. Further, upon pick-up of all guests at the beginning of tour we shall ask each guest to complete a short health survey. At that time, if you have any symptoms of COVID-19, we will assist you to seek medical advice immediately. You will not be permitted to join the tour until cleared by a medical professional.
Travel insurance is strongly recommended for travel to cover a broad range of potential travel issues. Currently most policies are unlikely to cover for COVID-19 related illness or travel issues; however, each policy differs and it is important to check your individual policy inclusions and exclusions.
We strongly advise you to take out travel insurance which includes cover for cancellation costs.
If you cancel some or all portions of your booking the cancellation terms set out below will apply.
If you cancel a booking:
21 days or more prior to departure, we will charge the lessor amount between the booking deposit amount and 25% of the total booking amount.
Within 8 to 20 days prior to departure, we will charge 50% of the booking amount.
7 days or fewer prior to departure or no show, we will charge 100% of the booking amount.
Mt Wellington Descent tour only- we may at our absolute discretion charge the following fees: within 7 Days- 25%, within 48 to 24 hours- 50%, or within 24 hours or no show- 100% of booking amount.
If you cancel a booking due to COVID-19:
Within 21 days of departure and due to you having COVID-19 or symptoms and supported by a medical certificate, or due to border closures inhibiting your ability to travel, we will refund monies paid by you in connection with the booking less any unrecoverable costs.
If you are not present at your tour’s department time, you join the tour after departure, or leave the tour prior to its completion for any reason, no refund will be made.
Cancellations by Us
If we cancel your tour, you can transfer the fare paid towards a tour on an alternate date or alternatively receive a full refund. Refunds will be provided where required by Australian Consumer Law.
In circumstances where a cancellation is due to external events outside our reasonable control, refunds will be less any unrecoverable costs. We are not responsible for any incidental expenses that you may have incurred as a result of your booking including but not limited to visas, vaccinations, travel insurance excess or non-refundable flights.
You are required to pay a non-refundable deposit of AUD$95 per person per trip for your booking to be confirmed. If your booking is made within 21 days of the departure date, then the full amount is payable at the time of booking.
Acceptance of booking and final payments
If we accept your booking, we will issue you with a booking confirmation notice by email. A contract will exist between you and us from the date we issue the confirmation notice or if you book within 21 days of departure the contract will exist when we accept your payment. Please refer to your booking confirmation for details regarding final payments, including how to make the payment. Payment of the balance of the trip price is due 21 days before the departure date. If this balance is not paid on or before the due date, we reserve the right to treat your booking as cancelled and any cancellation charges outlined at clause 4 (Cancellation by You) will apply.
If you require a change to your booking, no fees will be charged if changes are made 21 days or more prior to departure. Changes within 21 days of departure are only permitted when operationally possible and fees of up to $95 per amendment may be charged.
Itinerary and Price Changes
We reserve the right in our absolute discretion at all times to amend itineraries, inclusions and prices and where necessary cancel departures due to operational reasons, minimum number restrictions or weather conditions. Please note that minimum numbers restrictions apply for all tour departures. If an amendment as aforementioned is to take place, we will try to provide you with reasonable notice.
Travel insurance is NOT INCLUDED in the cost of your tour. It is strongly recommended that you have personal travel insurance sufficient to cover loss or damage to property, illness, injury, or not being able to travel on the confirmed date of departure. We are not responsible for any loss or damage to personal belongings or luggage, for any injury or loss of any type while on tour.
We are not responsible for any damage, expense or inconvenience caused by late arrival of flights or public transport, change of schedule, strikes, vehicle breakdown, acts of God, or other conditions. We reserve the right to alter the itinerary should it be deemed necessary. We act solely as an agent in securing accommodation and, where applicable, public transport or other services, and are not liable for any loss or inconvenience in the event of any failure by any person or company to render transportation, accommodation or other services.
Health and Safety
You acknowledge that the nature of the tour is adventure travel and participation involves a degree of personal risk. You agree to advise us prior to commencement of any tour of any pre-existing medical conditions you have which may affect your ability to participate in any part of the tour or other information we need to know to include you safely in the tour or activity. We reserve the right to withdraw any person who in our opinion is likely to endanger themselves or others. We also reserve the right to cancel the day’s touring if we become concerned for any reason for your safety or that of any other person. To the extent permitted by law, all our liability for disruption to travel plans or mental injury is excluded.
Age and Physical Requirements
A traveller must be minimum age of 12 years at the time of the tour to participate. We have no upper age limit though we remind you our tours can be physically demanding and we expect you to have a reasonable level of fitness and act responsibly to ensure your own safety and the safety of others at all times. Our tours have a component of free walking, all of which is done at your own risk. All travellers under the age of 18 years at time of the tour must be accompanied by a legal guardian, or in lieu of a legal guardian, by a responsible escort over the age of 18 years, appointed by their legal guardian. The legal guardian or escort of any traveller under the age of 18 years will be responsible for the day-to-day care of travellers in their charge. A legal guardian may apply for an exemption to the age requirements. This application must be made in writing to us and we reserve the right to make any determination in our absolute discretion.
Optional activities, as described in the itinerary, are at your own expense, are not included in the price of the tour and do not form part of these terms and conditions. You accept that any assistance given by your guide or any other member of our staff in arranging optional activities does not render us liable for them in any way. The contract for the provision of that activity will be between you and activity provider.
Use of Your Image
Throughout our tours our guides will take photos which may include you. We may wish to use those photos for promotional purposes. By joining the tour, you acknowledge and agree that we or our agents may take photos of you and you consent to us using images of you taken during the tour for our advertising and promotional purposes in any medium we choose. You grant us a perpetual, royalty-free, worldwide, irrevocable licence to use such images for publicity and promotional purposes.
If you don’t wish to take part, please inform your guide at the start of your tour. We will not use any image containing persons under the age of 18 years at the time of tour.
Claims & Complaints
If you have a complaint about your tour, please inform your guide or our representative as soon as possible in order that they can attempt to rectify the matter. If you are unsatisfied with the resolution at this level, then any further complaint should be put in writing and sent via email to email@example.com or by post to GPO Box 417, Hobart, Tasmania 7001 within 30 days of the end of the tour.
