What to Expect
Guaranteed to be a day you will never forget, this whale watching tour of Ningaloo Reef includes the opportunity to dive with the humback whales as they migrate through the area.
Lead by experienced crew members, you will be taken out to the Ningaloo Reef for eight hours of fun in the sun.
You will then head down to the jetty to board the large, comfortable vessel before going and exploring the beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Ningaloo Reef.
Everyone on this tour has the opportunity to get in the water for a guided snorkel on the reef where you may see sharks, stingrays, turtles and hundreds of fish!
From here, you will head to the outer reef in search of humpbacks, and, with the help of a spotter plane, the supplier will locate the whales and observe them in their natural environment. They may breach, slap their pectoral fins or any other number of different surface behaviours, so get your camera ready!
If the pilot and skipper deem the whales to be exhibiting the right behaviour, an in-water interaction is possible. At this point, those who have signed up for a swimming spot will be gathered on the back deck and with the help of the pilot, skipper and waterproof radios, you will enter the water and swim as quickly (but quietly) as possible to see the whales.
The crew stay in constant communication with the pilot through their radios to help direct the group to get the best chance at an interaction. However, please note that humpback whales are highly intelligent creatures and you do not decide to swim with them, they decide to swim with you.
Important: Humpbacks are very curious creatures and they may swim right up to the passengers or they may swim past. An in-water interaction is defined as being in the water within the exclusive contact zone determined by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions.
While out on the outer reef, you may also spot other wildlife including whale sharks or manta rays, which you may have the opportunity to swim with! You never know what the Ningaloo Reef will have in store for you!
Once the in-water interactions are over, come back on the boat and enjoy a full lunch buffet. Once you have all filled your belly, and, time permitting, the group will head back over to a beautiful spot on the reef for the second snorkel of the day. After you have seen all that you can of the beautiful reef and all the wildlife out there, the group come back to land at approximately 4pm.

Frequently Asked Questions
No. No up-front swim fee is charged, you only pay extra if you swim with a humback whale.
For all those interested in swimming with humpbacks, you don't have to pay full price if an interaction is not possible!
Whales are incredibly intelligent animals and very fast swimmers so if they do not want to swim with you, you cannot force them.
This is why the operator has structured their payments with only paying an initial rate to begin and then if an in water interaction is possible, they will charge you the additional fee for a swim! The supplier will try their absolute hardest to ensure that a swim occurs but as the animals dictate the interaction, why should you pay for something that is not possible?
You do not need to know how to snorkel, but it certainly helps. The more confident you are in the water, the more comfortable you’ll be on the tour. The crew are happy to help show you how to fit a mask and snorkel, and are there to answer any questions.
It depends on the individual animal! Whether it’s a manta ray, whale shark or humpback whale, each animal will behave differently. Some are quite curious and calm whereas others are moving faster and seem uninterested in being around swimmers. On average the animals are swimming at a slow pace for them, which can be a relatively brisk swim for us humans! Be prepared to do a fair amount of swimming throughout the day.
There is no age limit on the Humpback Whale Adventure Tour. All children must be supervised by an adult at all times. If your child is staying on the boat during a swim, there must be an adult on the boat with them.
Children rates apply to ages 6 - 15 years
Children under 6 are free of charge but must remain on the boat
Conditions on the inside of the reef are typically calmer and more sheltered than the outer reef. This tour goes outside the reef to open ocean where conditions vary widely. Some days are flat whereas other days there can be swell up to a couple metres. The supplier will cancel tours if the skipper decides it is unsafe to take people on the boat. If you think you may get seasick, it’s best to take medication! Please note there are none at the shop or on the boat.
