There is plenty of things to explore on the island, consisting of nearly 50% of National Park with stunning beaches and abundant wildlife. Note: You have the possibility to hop off in Tully along the way and participate in Loka’s exclusive Indigenous Rainforest Experience (operates TUESDAY/THURSDAY/SATURDAY).
SLEEPING: YHA Bungalow Bay or your choice of Magnetic Island accommodation.
Travel Day: Magnetic Island (via Townsville) – Airlie Beach
MEETING: At YHA Bungalow Bay reception or at the ferry terminal (please confirm).
A guide will accompany you in the morning on the Forts walk. Alternatively, you can do some exploring, check out the local wildlife park or just chill by the pool. In the afternoon the ferry will take us back to the mainland. Then we will jump on the train to Proserpine, where a transfer will bring us to Airlie Beach. We plan to arrive at Airlie Beach at approximately 7 pm. Note: Depending on which day you leave, you may have an extra free day to spend on Magnetic Island.
SLEEPING: Your choice of Airlie accommodation. Check out the Loka web app for our latest deals on accomodations.

Travel Days: Airlie Beach – Emu Park (Special Stop)
MEETING: outside Base backpackers.
Most of the day will be free for activities of your choice in Airlie. In the early evening, we get a transfer to the train and continue our journey to Rockhampton. We hop off the train and jump on a quick transfer to the little coastal town of Emu Park. Here you can enjoy a great deal: $75 for 2 nights accommodation at Emu’s Beach Resort and an Aussie farm experience including a ‘swagman’s dinner' and a tour around the property. At Emu Park, you can relax by the resort pool or go on a turtle-spotting walk up to Bluff Point. Note: Depending on the day on which you arrive you may have an additional night to sleep in swags at the Country Campout, for an extra $34 (including camping experience and breakfast).
