What to Expect

Join this tour to uncover the wonder of the West MacDonnell Ranges National Park, a treasure trove of natural beauty and history.

There are plenty of walking trails and waterholes to cool off from the Red Centre's heat. Located west of Alice Springs, the West MacDonnell Ranges cover 161km and serve as a refuge for wildlife found nowhere else.

After getting picked up from Alice Springs, you'll head to the first stop of the day. Known traditionally as Angkerle Atwatye, meaning "Gap of Water", Standley Chasm is a 3-metre-wide, 80-metre-high gorge among the West MacDonnell Ranges.

If you're lucky, you'll spot some native wildlife as you explore this beautifully rugged area before tracking west and for a dip in Ellery Creek Bighole, known traditionally as Udepata. It's surrounded by tall red cliffs and sandy Ellery Creek, and one of Central Australia's largest and most beautiful swimming spots.

Continue onwards to where massive geological forces created the towering red walls of Ormiston Gorge. Spend time admiring nature at its finest.

After, begin your leisurely journey back towards Alice Springs, with a final stop at another fantastic feature of the Tjoritja West MacDonnells region – Simpsons Gap, where several dreaming trails and stories cross. Featuring a permanent waterhole, this is also a great place to spot resident wildlife.

Now you've had your fix of some of the best of central Australia's natural icons, your driver/guide will deliver you back to Alice Springs to your chosen accommodation and evening plans as you reminisce on your day of exploration.
