WHAT TO EXPECT
On the day
Get ready for a thrilling day on the water! We'll start the day by picking you up from your centrally located Rotorua accommodation or the Rotorua Information Centre at approximately 9:30am. Once we've picked you up, we'll head out on a 40 minute scenic drive through native forest to our rafting point on the Rangtaiki River.
We'll get you all kitted up in your wetsuit, waterproof jacket, life jacket, booties and helmet. We'll then take you through a safety briefing and give you basic paddling instructions after which you'll be ready to hit the rapids! The Rangtaiki River is a grade 3-4 river so it's ideal for first time rafters. You will paddle along a beautiful 14km stretch of water, passing lush forest, tackling whitewater rapids such as 'Geoff's Joy' and the 'Tautika Rock Garden', plus loads more. We also stop at a natural hot spring, so you can go for a refreshing swim.
Our rafting experts will guide you safely across all of the rapids and while you're paddling they'll tell you fun facts about the area as well as give you an insight into Maori culture. Oh and don't forget to you keep you eyes out for local wildlife along the way!
After your exhilarating rafting adventure, you'll probably be feeling pretty tired, so we'll replenish your energy with a delicious lunch and relaxing soak in a geothermal hot spring.
About Kaitiaki Adventures
Kaitiaki Adventures started in 1999 with a passion to bring you world-class adventures in Rotorua infused with Maori culture. Kaitiaki carry out all of their rafting adventures with the utmost respect for the people of the river Ngati Hinerangi & Ngati Hinekiri. Kaitiaki Adventures were the first and only white water rafting company to approach the hapu of Ngati Pikiao for permission to raft commercially on their awa (river). Permission was granted and to this day Kaitiaki Adventures are still the only commercial identity to rightfully be on the awa.
