WHAT TO EXPECT
A day full of state-of-the-art flying fox ziplines and an immersive forest walk... this is the best way to discover breath-taking Waiheke Island. Perfect for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts alike! Ziplining is less scary than a bungee jump, but it's packed with enough excitement to get your heart racing. Get ready for a day of fun on three exciting ziplines before a forest walk full of rugged nature and wildlife.
For the full Waiheke experience, opt for the pick-up option which has a fascinating, 20-minute, highlights tour included! Meet at Matiatia Ferry Terminal or join the group in Oneroa Village.
En route to your EcoZip adventure, check out the must-see sights of Waiheke, like Little O Beach, Palm Beach and Little Palm Beach. You’ll also spy charming olive groves, world-class vineyards and learn more about the area as your guide recounts the stories, legends and even a little gossip.
Once you reach your ziplining destination, it's time to hit the skies for an adrenaline rush like no other. You'll have access to three unique ziplines, each over 200m long with dual cables allowing you to fly side-by-side with a friend!
Zip One (Vineyard Cruise) soars above a beautiful working vineyard. This line has the most shallow gradient, and at 220m long, is a gentle introduction to your ziplining eco-adventure. You'll be surrounded by stunning views, with Auckland’s skyline and the islands of the Hauraki Gulf as a backdrop and the brooding silhouette of volcanic Rangitoto in the foreground.
Zip Two (City View) ups the excitement taking you even higher and faster. This zipline provides a magnificent view of the city of Auckland, 25km away across the sparkling water. Around 200m long, this zipline sees you fly through, then above, the forest canopy. Remember to look down to enjoy the beautiful patterns created by the native tree ferns and enjoy a birds-eye view of the centuries-old forest.
Zip Three (Kurinui) is the main event! Kurinui is a Maori word and your zipline guide will explain its significance as you take in the awe-inspiring perspective from the take-off deck. There are some great vineyard views and glimpses of Auckland’s eastern beaches. With 220m of the steepest gradient of the ziplines, Kurinui will have you moving at speeds over 50kmh! That's actually faster than you can legally drive on Waiheke’s roads!
Just past the landing point for this zipline is a sheltered terrace which a great place to grab action shots of the rest of your group. But once you've reached Kurinui's impressive landing deck the adventure isn't over... in fact, it's only just beginning!
Descending from Kurinui’s landing deck, you’ll embark on a magical guided nature walk. This easy trek sees you exchange your birds-eye forest view for one of the cool rainforest floor. The native forest is home to a diverse range of animals, including beautiful geckos and skinks, weta, eels, freshwater crayfish and glow-worms. The ancient trees here are a treasure-trove of stories and legend, and your expert guides will share the Maori legends with your group. You'll also learn about the once-threatened, now thriving species that call the forest home.
As the trail winds through this spectacular, ancient forest, you’ll hear more about Waiheke’s history and how your zipline visit helps to preserve and restore this beautiful and important site.
Later, the 'mini-tour' continues. Drop-off is available at your pick-up point, or to one of the many vineyards, beaches and restaurants between the EcoZip site and the ferry terminal at Matiatia. This is a great chance to spend some more time exploring this special place.
Self-drive options are available. For travellers with their own car, take the ferry from Auckland before making your way to the EcoZip site at 150 Trig Hill Road.
Please note: to participate in the EcoZip experience you need to weigh at least 30kg (66lbs) but not more than 125kg (275lbs).
