Why do we love this

WHAT TO EXPECT
It's time to head to the land of the long white cloud! Fall in love with New Zealand as you explore its endless mountain ranges, pristine lakes and stunning scenery. Be awed by the amazing Queenstown, Lake Tekapo and Franz Josef on this that will show you the best of New Zealand's South.
Day 1 - Christchurch to Lake Tekapo
Start your journey in Christchurch at 8.00am. Spend a few hours exploring the town and discover beautiful gardens, funky markets and gorgeous scenery. This area was devasted by an earthquake in 2011 and today is undergoing an impressive transformation.
Next, make your way to Tekapo, home to one of New Zealand’s most famous lakes. The bright turquoise Lake Tekapo, surrounded by the jagged Southern Alps, will take your breath away. Minerals left by ancient glaciers are the cause of its magical turquoise-coloured water and with towering mountains and pink and purple Lupin flowers along its banks, the lake seem almost surreal.
This spot is picturesque by day and dazzling by night so get ready to be impressed. It's also part of IDA International Dark Sky Reserve so its the perfect spot for some serious stargazing.
Day 2 - Lake Tekapo to Queenstown
After a breathtaking morning in Lake Tekapo, head to Queenstown for a day of adventure.
From the golden lands of MacKenzie country - where the epic battles of Return of the King were filmed - to the dramatic mountain peaks of the Southern Alps surrounding us, it’s like you’re driving into a postcard as you arrive.
Ride a gondola over the city and catch magnificent views of this jewel of the South Island. There's no other place like it, and you'll be wowed by the scenery and endless beauty that surrounds you.
Day 3 - Queenstown
Spend today wandering the streets of Queenstown and taking in all this beautiful place has to offer. Browse the mall, explore the beach or try a famous Fergburger. It's up to you!
There are many different options to choose from, whether its paragliding, mountain biking, bungy jumping or horse riding through some stunning Lord of the Rings locations in Glenorchy.
You can also head to one of New Zealand's most famous sights, Milford Sound. Scenery lovers can't miss this. Whether you choose a scenic flight or a cruisey coach trip, you’ll love the scenic journey as much as the destination. Sailing around the fjords beneath thundering waterfalls and towering cliff faces, you’ll understand why it's called the '8th Wonder of the World '.
Day 4 - Queenstown to Wanaka
Leave the beauty of Queenstown behind today and hit the road... it's time to cross the mountains into wondrous Wanaka. It's an exciting ride, and you'll catch plenty of stunning views along the way. This is a landscape of snowy peaks and frosty trees, a true Kiwi wonderland.
Visit incredible Lake Wanaka for a real taste of New Zealand wilderness. Surrounded by snowy mountains and with plenty of great walks, this is a great spot to explore.
One of the best ways to admire Wanaka is from the air. Treat yourself to a skydive or a scenic flight in a vintage plane - you can even take a flying lesson. Or if you prefer to keep your feet on the ground, stroll around the lake and check out the famous Wanaka Tree, standing all alone in the water. It’s up to you.
Day 5 - Wanaka to Franz Josef
Wake up from your snowy camp for uninterrupted views of stunning Lake Wanaka and the Southern Alps. Watch the sun gently rise over these massive peaks and enjoy the birds and wildlife around the lake as the day warms.
You're heading to Franz Josef today, land of icy glaciers and snow fun. Have fun exploring, skiing or having snow ball fights!
Make sure you keep your eyes open during the journey. From mountain passes to cascading waterfalls to classic Kiwi coastal views, you won’t want to miss this.
Between September and December it’s whitebait season (a small fish that’s a delicacy in New Zealand) and fried up with eggs and served on toast, it’s a local treat and shouldn’t be missed. Stop at one of the local spots along the way to try it out.
Day 6 - Franz Josef
After waking to snowy surrounds, your day exploring the stunning Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers begins!
To exploreFranz Josef Glacier, take a 1.5-hour walk and arrive within 750m of its terminal face. There's also a range of natural attractions close to Franz Josef Glacier Village, so prepare to lose yourself in the rainforest, waterfall, and lake explorations.
There are heaps of ways to enjoy Franz Josef Glacier; weather permitting, to get up onto the bluest ice you can take a scenic helicopter flight and hike onto the glaciers. Maybe you’d prefer to kayak on a glacial lake, or just relax in the steamy hot springs down below.
As well as the awesome glacier activities you could also try out quad biking, horseback riding and even a bit of group karaoke tonight in Franz Josef!
Day 7 - Franz Josef to Christchurch
It's goodbye to snowy paradise today.
Hop aboard and road trip up the wild west coast to Greymouth. A town with a history of gold mining and dramatic river floods, this is another sublime spot to wander and explore.
Have some fun take the world-famous TranzAlpine train back to Christchurch. One of the top 10 train journeys in the world, it's the perfect highlight for the end of your trip.
Your trip ends at Christchurch Railway Station at 6:30 pm.
This is a 7-day tour, starting and finishing in Christchurch.
