Pourquoi aimons-nous cela
Nous aimons que cette tournée vous fasse sortir des sentiers battus et vous montre une face cachée à Kakadu et au Top End.
Please note: Territory Expeditions will not be running tours over the Christmas break. The trip of the year will be on the 4 décembre 2018 and trips will recommence Friday 1 février 2019.
Get off the beaten track, immerse yourself in the outback and experience Australia’s tropical north at it’s best! Located 240km east of Darwin, the world heritage listed Kakadu National Park is an incredibly varied vista of waterfalls, wetlands, and wildlife that is home to over 2,000 different plant species.
This camping safari will take you deep into the heart of what is arguably Australia’s most jaw-droppingly beautiful national park. You'll be immersed into timeless Aboriginal culture, where little has changed in over 50,000 years. Swim under waterfalls, trek through the jungle, uncover some of the oldest rock art in the world and camp out under the stars, while listening to stories from your guides. You'll leave with an understanding of the connection between Aboriginal culture and nature.
Day 1: Darwin to Kakadu National Park, the White Lily Billabong and Gunlom Falls
You're off to an early start today, with a pick up from your Darwin accommodation at around 6:30am. Kick back and relax as you take the scenic drive out to Kakadu, stopping en route at the White Lily Billabong to enjoy some incredible views with a delicious morning tea.
From there, drive onto Gunlom, where you'll set up camp at the base of a waterfall and spend the afternoon exploring, hiking and swimming! An easy walk to the top of the falls will reward you with sweeping vistas of the entire national park. You'll there you'll also find a series of crystal clear plunge pools just waiting to be swum in. What bliss!
Day 2: Koolpin Gorge, Kakadu National Park
Spend today exploring Kakadu’s best-kept secret - Koolpin Gorge! A short drive through the Outback takes you to a special restricted area of the park, where there are no marked paths, trails or tourists. You can appreciate the beauty of the area here and really immerse yourself in the nature that surrounds you.
Later, your expert guides will lead you on an adventure through the wilderness. Climb over pink rocks and wading through little streams until you reach private beaches and waterfalls, with some of the best views the park has to offer!
After dark, head back to your campsite at Gunlom, where you'll cook dinner over the campfire and share stories under the stars.
Day 3: Maguk (Barramundi Gorge), Kakadu National Park
Start your morning with a drive north to Maguk, stopping en route to take pictures and search for some of the 12,000 species of animals and insects that inhabit this park.
Maguk, which is also known as Barramundi Gorge, is a rocky fall in the southern area of the park. The walk to the falls passes through a tropical forest, home to some of Kakadu’s most unique wildlife, including the Saltwater crocodile!
Follow the path through a dry and rocky landscape, crisscrossing the creek and clambering over boulders until you reach the impressive Maguk Falls. Take pictures here, cool off in the blue waters, get your aching muscles massaged by the waterfall and enjoy amazing views from the top.
After a picnic lunch and lazy swim, head back through the forest and hit the road north to what is arguably Kakadu National Park’s main attraction, the spectacular Jim Jim Falls!
Day 4: Twin Falls, Jim Jim Falls, and the Yellow Waters, Kakadu National Park
Kick off the day with an early morning boat trip to Twin Falls, keeping an eye out for Pig-nosed turtles and Saltwater crocodiles as you go! Marvel at the towering cliffs and deep colours of the ancient rock as the boat gets up close to the plunging falls.
This afternoon, you'll journey through monsoon forests and rocky outcrops to the 150 metre-high Jim Jim Falls. Enjoy a relaxing swim in the plunge pools and soak up the spectacular waterfall surrounded by ancient cliffs.
Later, finish off an incredible day with an optional sunset cruise on the famous Yellow Waters. Once evening falls, set up camp for the night and enjoy cooking over the bonfire and your last night under the stars.
Day 5: Burrunggi, Gunhardewarde, the Mamakala Wetlands and Darwin
End your trip with a visit to Burrunggui, where history, art, culture and natural beauty collide. This area, which is also known as Nourlangie Rock, gives Kakadu National Park it’s UNESCO World Heritage listing and offers a unique insight into Australian history.
Follow your expert guides on a visual journey through the rocky outcrop, uncovering ancient rock art dating back over 20,000 years. Witness the arrival of Europeans, as told by Aborigines, with paintings of tall sailboats and European animals. Learn about the famous Aboriginal Dreamtime stories, with depictions of Namandi spirits and human figures with six fingers on each hand.
After exploring these incredible sites, wander up to Gunhardewharde lookout for one last sweeping panorama of the region, before stopping off at the Bowali Visitor Centre for souvenirs and Aboriginal arts and crafts.
Enjoy the scenic drive through the Outback, stopping off for photo opportunities and calling in at Mamakala Wetlands to view the incredible birdlife from a wooden platform over the Billabong.
Finally, hit the road back to Darwin where you'll arrive in the early evening.
