WHAT TO EXPECT
Go for the ultimate Milford Sound package and see the incredible Fiord from on, above and below the water! This trip includes a nature cruise along the length of the Fiord, 1 hour 30 minutes of kayaking around the sheltered Harrison Cove, and entry to the incredible Milford Discovery Centre & Underwater Observatory.
You'll start with a cruise along the entire length of the sound, all the way out to the Tasman Sea. Basque in the majesty of the Fiord while coming up close to its famous features, including waterfalls, wildlife, and rainforest from our incredible 360-degree viewing platforms.
Next, you'll be dropped off at the Milford Discovery Centre & Underwater Observatory, New Zealand's only floating underwater observatory and an underwater paradise. Hidden beneath the surface of Harrison Cove, it is a truly unique environment which enables visitors to experience the magic of the Piopiotahi Marine Reserve, previously only accessible by divers. Descend 10 metres underwater into a large, air-conditioned viewing area where 360-degree windows open your eyes to the underwater haven. You'll discover extraordinary rare black coral and colourful sea creatures teeming below the surface. It is not an aquarium, however, as the fish are free to come and go as they please - which adds to the magic of the place. You'll be guided through the Milford Sound story with colourful, interactive information panels, which cover the culture, heritage, geology and wildlife of the region.
The kayaking component of your trip will commence with your specialist kayak and nature guide leading you to the kayaking pontoon. Here, you'll enjoy 60 to 90 minutes of relaxing kayaking through the crystal clear waters of Harrison Cove. You'll be able to paddle at your own pace while soaking up the serenity of the Fiord from water level and coming up close to its famous features and wildlife. There is a maximum of 8 kayaks per tour which makes for a truly intimate experience. There is no prior kayaking experience required, and there is even an automated lift that allows for easy entry and exit from our kayaks. You have the option of kayaking on your own in a single kayak or doubling up in a 2 person kayak - perfect for families and those with younger kids (the minimum child age is 5 years old).
