Get ready for an adrenaline rush like no other! Skydiving is one of life's ultimate thrills and with Skydive Taupo you will be able to free fall over New Zealand's largest lake from 15,000 ft! After 5,000 ft your brain has no perception of depth, so jumping out of a plane feels completely surreal! During your 60 seconds of free fall, you will feel like you are floating on a big cushion of air. It really is a once in a lifetime experience.
On the day
You'll be picked up in our famous pink limo from Taupo centre and head on the 7 minute drive to our dropzone located at Taupo airport. Our friendly staff will then explain what photo packages are available to you (see FAQs) and show you a short safety briefing video.
Next, you'll get you geared up in your jumpsuit, harness, hat and goggles. After which your skydiving instructor will come over and introduce themself to you. They'll tighten your harness and go over a few final safety instructions. If you have chosen one of our video packages you will give your first interview to the camera, so stay calm and SMILE!
You'll then take off in our custom pink plane for a 20 minute scenic flight overlooking Mount Tongariro, Mount Ruapehu and Mount Ngauruhoe (Mount Doom). On a really clear day, you may even be able to see both coasts of the North Island! Before reaching an altitude of 15,000 ft... are you ready to jump?
Feel the rush of air as your door opens and you sit teetering on the edge of the plane, with your legs hanging over the side. And JUMP! You will free fall for 45 seconds at a speed of 200+ kph. You will feel like you are floating on a big cushion of air and you won't be scared as your brain just can't comprehend what is happening! But don't forget to interact with the cameraman (if you opted for video) smile and have fun with it!
Your parachute will open at 5,000 ft and you'll gently glide back down to Earth, so relax and make sure you take in all of those incredible views. If the conditions are right your Skydive Taupo instructor will let you take the reins, helping steer your parachute back to the drop zone. Your landing will be smooth and gentle, lift your legs and land on your bum!
Congratulations you've just done your first skydive!
