Why Do We Love This
See by yourself the amazing dynamic of the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano. This National Park is home of one of the most active volcano with fumaroles activity.
What to Expect
Rincón de la Vieja or Old Woman's Nook National Park is home to a diversity of habitats such as cloud forest, tropical rainforest, and tropical dry forest and most notoriously home to its homonymous active volcano that stands at approximately 6200 feet above sea level (1895 m). According to the locals, the volcano was named by the indigenous Guatuso tribe. The story behind the name is that it was once believed that the smoke from the volcano came from the cooking of a kind old woman who prepared meals to fatigued travelers on top of the volcano.
This two hour guided hike over a 3 km path (Sendero de las Pailas) will allow you a closer look of this sleeping giant and amazing views over the National Park, passing through bubbling water lagoons, steamy sulphur water ponds, little mud volcanoes, gases and more.
