WHAT TO EXPECT
If there’s one thing we’re famous for here in Australia; it’s our unique wildlife! Of all these lovely beasts, the most fascinating has to be our great whites. They always play the bad guy in the movies, but have you ever met one in person?
In Port Lincoln, that’s exactly what you can do! We run Australia’s most epic shark cage diving tour. It’s fun, it’s interesting, and it’s pretty damn scary. Backpackers from all over Australia come to us to get an adventure they’ll never forget. Don’t miss out on this must-do Aussie experience!
Swim with great whites
Our tour is a unique opportunity to experience the legendary great white shark in its natural habitat. This means that you will be underwater with them. Our shark cage is the closest you’ll ever get to a great white without risking ending up as a tasty snack.
We do our shark tours in “shark bay” on Neptune Island which is about 70 km south of Port Lincoln. The trip out to the island is beautiful in itself. We’ll sail through the Thorny Passage and, with a little luck, we might even see local dolphins and sea birds.
Jump in the cage and enter an underwater world full of beautiful creatures with dangerously sharp teeth. A mature female great white can be up to 6 meters long and weigh almost 2,000 kg. Although most sharks are smaller than this, we guarantee you’re going to get goosebumps when you see your first shark in real life.
Try the world’s first Aqua Sub
If being in the water right next to the sharks sounds a little too adventurous, we also have another option for you. Our brand new Aqua Sub gives you the opportunity to see the sharks up close without getting wet. It’s a glass viewing area with 360 degree views which means you’ll be dry and comfortable the whole time. You can even bring a beer to calm your nerves!
Our Aqua Sub is the first of its kind in the world and we’re very proud to have it here in Port Lincoln. Whether you choose to go in the shark cage or the Aqua Sub, you’re in for an absolutely insane experience.
Go as a spectator
Finally, we also offer the opportunity to go on our shark cage tour as a spectator. And don’t worry – if you change your mind and want to get in the water, we’ll make it happen!
We can upgrade you to underwater access on the day for $125.00 which is payable on the boat. This upgrade gives you access to either diving in the cage or entering our Aqua Sub. It includes mask, snorkel, wetsuit, gloves, and hood. All underwater access fees are refundable on the day if sharks are unsighted or at the skipper’s discretion.
We use audio sound vibrations
Protecting the sharks’ natural environment is one of our key priorities. We want to make sure that both our guests as well as the sharks have a good time. To ensure this, we do not use chum or berley to attract the sharks. We have a more eco-friendly (and way more fun) system.
Want to know what we do? We play rock music! That’s right – it turns even great whites can't resist a solid guitar solo. After experimenting a bit, we’ve discovered that especially AC/DC works really well to attract the sharks. We’ve recently found out that The Hilltop Hoods is also quite a hit in the shark disco. If you’re a rock fan, you’re welcome to play some underwater air guitar with your new friends!
The good thing about using audio sound vibrations to attract the sharks is that it is omnidirectional. This means that the sounds travel in all directions underwater. We don’t interfere with the sharks’ environment and the sharks get to listen to some awesome tunes. Perfect!
The tour leaves from the boarding pontoon opposite By The Sea Gallery on the corner of Jubilee Drive and South Quay Blvd. at Port Lincoln Marina (unless otherwise stated).
