What to Expect

Day 1: Hobart - Port Arthur & Tasman Peninsula
Tour departs 7.30 am. Pickups from selected locations available.

Begin your Tasmania tour with a visit to the historic village of Richmond! Richmond is home to some of Australia’s best colonial architecture as well as Australia's oldest bridge.

Next up is the Tasman Peninsula, with dramatic cliffs, quirky towns and spectacular views. Walk through the Tasman National Park, to the stunning Waterfall Bay. Get lost in the natural beauty as you admire the Devil’s Kitchen and Tasman Arch en route.

Then, it's onto the highlight of the day - World Heritage listed Port Arthur Historic Site. See the sights over 3 hours with a guided walking tour, harbour cruise and some free time.

After learning all about Tassie's convict history, head back to Hobart. There'll be time to do a chocolate tasting on the way.

(If you join this Tasmania tour on Monday, Wednesday or Saturday, you will visit Port Arthur on day 7, not day 1)

Overnight: Tassie Backpackers, Hobart

Day 2: Mt Field, Russell Falls & Lake St. Clair
The pristine World Heritage wilderness of Mount Field National Park is your first stop today. See beautiful Russell Falls and walk among some of the tallest trees on earth. As you wander, look out for cute Tasmanian Pademelons hopping around, they’re unique to Tasmania!

After spending the morning exploring, you'll stop for lunch at Australia’s deepest lake, peaceful Lake St Clair. If you’re lucky you might see a platypus!

Then, head up to Donaghy’s Hill, where the incredible views stretch in all directions. See the quartzite peak of Frenchmans Cap and the iconic Franklin River winding its way through the valley below.

Overnight: Jump Holiday House, Tullah (dorms and private rooms with shared bath) and Tullah Tavern/Lodge (private rooms with ensuite bathrooms)

Day 3: Montezuma Falls, Strahan & Henty Dunes
Start your day with a walk through lush rainforest along the path of an old railway. Your destination is Montezuma Falls – Tasmania’s highest waterfall.

For lunch, stop at the beautiful fishing town of Strahan. Immerse yourself in the history of what was once one of the most remote outposts of the British Empire.

Next, head to the massive Henty Dunes that are close by. Climb to the top for a wonderful view across the Southern Ocean and an awesome jump shot experience!

Overnight: Jump Holiday House, Tullah (dorms and private rooms with shared bath) and Tullah Tavern/Lodge (private rooms with ensuite bathrooms).

Day 4: Cradle Mountain, Sheffield & Launceston
Stunning Cradle Mountain is a place to take in slowly. You'll spend 3-4 hours here, with a range of walking options available. This is the fifth highest mountain in Tassie, so you'll catch some epic views.

After Cradle, move on to Sheffield, the Town of Murals. Check out these colourful pieces as you enjoy lunch.

This afternoon, there's time to enjoy more of Tassie’s fine foods with delicious hot smoked salmon tasting.

Bellies full, you'll reach Tasmania’s northern capital, the garden city of Launceston in the evening. Check out the Cataract Gorge, a gorgeous natural valley in the heart of the city!

Overnight: Launceston Backpackers

Day 5: Bay of Fires, Bicheno & East Coast
Heading east today, you'll discover what is probably the most beautiful part of Tassie.

Admire the amazing memorial carvings at Legerwood, then taste the award-winning cheese produced by Pyengana Dairy Company. Yum.

In the afternoon it’s time for the highlight of the day – the stunning Bay of Fires. This incredible place has some of the whitest sand and clearest water you’ll ever see. Take your time to explore the beach or maybe take a swim. If you like oysters you can purchase some of the best nearby at St Helen's. They're worth a try!

In the evening you'll reach your home for the night, the seaside town of Bicheno. As darkness falls, head to the beach to see little penguins come ashore to nest.

Overnight: Seaview at Bicheno

Day 6: Wineglass Bay, Freycinet & Kate’s Berry Farm
It's time to visit another icon today, with Wineglass Bay in Freycinet National Park as your first stop. Fantastic views are on offer from the lookout, the beach and from 450 metres above sea level on top of Mount Amos! The sparkling water and breathtaking surrounds here will blow your mind.

There's an optional activity this morning at East Coast Natureworld, a popular wildlife sanctuary. You'll have the chance to see some of the rescues animals and watch feeding time for the Tasmanian devils, wombats, kangaroos and koalas. (Extra cost)

This afternoon, travel down the scenic Great Eastern Drive back to Hobart. Stop at Kate’s Berry Farm at Swansea on the way for a snack. This is a great afternoon tea spot with a fantastic view.

Overnight: Tassie Backpackers, Hobart

Day 7: Bruny Island
Spectacular Bruny Island is a feast for the senses. After a short ferry ride from Kettering, a private tasting at Bruny Island Cheese awaits!

Afterwards, heading south, you'll walk up the steps to the Truganini lookout at the Neck, with incredible 360 degree views.

Continuing on, look for Bruny’s famous white wallabies and watch the surf roll in during lunch at Adventure Bay.

Later, choose between the Bruny Island Cruise (extra cost) or the beautiful Fluted Cape walk. Local oysters can be purchased on the drive back to the ferry.

Your Tasmania tour ends in Hobart at 6.30 pm.

As our Lap of Tassie and Best of Tasmania tours start and finish in the same place, we’d appreciate it if you can minimise luggage by leaving some of it in your hostel/hotel in Hobart or Launceston, bringing only those things you need for the tour. Most hostels and hotels in Tasmania offer storage facilities. Please limit the luggage you bring on tour to one backpack or suitcase (maximum 20kg) and one day pack or handbag per person.

Much of Tasmania is wilderness - this is why so many people want to visit! In most national parks and world heritage areas there is no mobile phone signal and no wifi.

However many towns across Tasmania have free public wifi, including Strahan, Sheffield, Queenstown, Launceston, Port Arthur, Bicheno & Hobart. Some accommodation also has wifi.

If you cannot be out of contact for more than a few hours, we recommend you purchase a sim for your cell or mobile phone through Telstra or Optus.
