WHAT TO EXPECT
No trip to Australia is complete without visiting Ayers Rock, in the 'Red Centre' of Australia - a region famous for its cultural connection, native vegetation and stunning landscape. This trip is the ultimate for those budget conscious travellers looking to experience all that the region has to offer at an affordable price.
Day 1 & 2: Greyhound Bus (Only available on Wednesday & Sunday from Cairns)
Depart Cairns from the Greyhound Bus Terminal at 1.00am. You'll arrive into Alice Springs the next day at 9.15am.
Enjoy 1 nights accommodation in the Alice Springs YHA (6 share dorm) which is located a 5-minute walk from the Alice Springs Greyhound Station.
Day 3: Kings Canyon (lunch and dinner)
Be ready for a 5:30 am pickup from your accommodation, as you will soon be on your way to your first destination, the spectacular Kings Canyon. Here you will enjoy a 3-hour guided hike to the rim of the canyon to see the 'Lost City' and witness the morning sun gleam over the sandstone domes. You will then visit several Amphitheatres, north & south walls and descent into the beautiful palm-filled Garden of Eden. After, you'll stop at Curtin Springs, where you have time for a quick shower and toilet stop before setting up Bush Camp. A healthy camp-oven dinner will be prepared by your guide, and you will then have the chance to relax around the open fire and star gaze at one of the best night skies in the world curled up in your cosy swag.
Day 4: Kata Tjuta & Uluru Sunset (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
After waking up to a mesmirising sunrise over the camp, you will head to Ayers Rock Campground for a quick shower and toilet stop before making your way to The Olgas - a group of large, domed rock formations. As you walk through the Valley of the Winds at Kata Tjuta, feel the spiritual significance of the land and listen to your guide as he informs you about the historical past of the area. You'll then head to the Aboriginal Cultural Centre where you'll hear tales from the 'Tjukurpa'Dreamtime. You'll experience sunset over Uluru and witness the magical rock face changing colour - an unforgettable sight. You'll then spend the night at the Ayers Rock Campground equipped with toilets and showers.
Day 5: Uluru Sunrise (breakfast and lunch)
It's an early start this morning as you depart the Ayers Rock Campground in time to catch the magical Uluru sunrise over the world's largest rock. You'll then have an opportunity to complete an Uluru Base Walk, stopping by beautiful sites including the Mala Walk, Mutijulu Waterhole and witnessing authentic Aboriginal cave paintings. On your way back, you can stop off for an optional Camel Ride (3-5 min for $7) at the camel farm, before returning to Alice Springs at approximately 5:00 pm. Get washed and cleaned up before meeting your guide for dinner and a couple of beers at The Rock Bar (at your own cost).
