We love that this tour takes you from the humid Far North Queensland right into the centre of desert Australia! It makes exploring two iconic Aussie areas easy.

WHAT TO EXPECT

No trip to Australia is complete without visiting Ayers Rock, in the 'Red Centre' of Australia - a region famous for its cultural connection, native vegetation and stunning landscape. This trip is the ultimate for those budget conscious travellers looking to experience all that the region has to offer at an affordable price.

Day 1 & 2: Greyhound Bus (Only available on Wednesday & Sunday from Cairns)
Depart Cairns from the Greyhound Bus Terminal at 1.00am. You'll arrive into Alice Springs the next day at 9.15am.

Enjoy 1 nights accommodation in the Alice Springs YHA (6 share dorm) which is located a 5-minute walk from the Alice Springs Greyhound Station.

Day 3: Kings Canyon (lunch and dinner)
Be ready for a 5:30 am pickup from your accommodation, as you will soon be on your way to your first destination, the spectacular Kings Canyon. Here you will enjoy a 3-hour guided hike to the rim of the canyon to see the 'Lost City' and witness the morning sun gleam over the sandstone domes. You will then visit several Amphitheatres, north & south walls and descent into the beautiful palm-filled Garden of Eden. After, you'll stop at Curtin Springs, where you have time for a quick shower and toilet stop before setting up Bush Camp. A healthy camp-oven dinner will be prepared by your guide, and you will then have the chance to relax around the open fire and star gaze at one of the best night skies in the world curled up in your cosy swag.

Day 4: Kata Tjuta & Uluru Sunset (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
After waking up to a mesmirising sunrise over the camp, you will head to Ayers Rock Campground for a quick shower and toilet stop before making your way to The Olgas - a group of large, domed rock formations. As you walk through the Valley of the Winds at Kata Tjuta, feel the spiritual significance of the land and listen to your guide as he informs you about the historical past of the area. You'll then head to the Aboriginal Cultural Centre where you'll hear tales from the 'Tjukurpa'Dreamtime. You'll experience sunset over Uluru and witness the magical rock face changing colour - an unforgettable sight. You'll then spend the night at the Ayers Rock Campground equipped with toilets and showers.

Day 5: Uluru Sunrise (breakfast and lunch)
It's an early start this morning as you depart the Ayers Rock Campground in time to catch the magical Uluru sunrise over the world's largest rock. You'll then have an opportunity to complete an Uluru Base Walk, stopping by beautiful sites including the Mala Walk, Mutijulu Waterhole and witnessing authentic Aboriginal cave paintings. On your way back, you can stop off for an optional Camel Ride (3-5 min for $7) at the camel farm, before returning to Alice Springs at approximately 5:00 pm. Get washed and cleaned up before meeting your guide for dinner and a couple of beers at The Rock Bar (at your own cost).

You will need to arrive in Cairns one day before the tour and stay the night. You will need to organise your own accommodation for the night).

You will need 2 x large 1.5 Litre bottles to take on the tour. You will need at least 3 litres of water for the Kings Canyon hike and will more than likely drink 4 to 5 litres of water on this day. You will need the same amount of water for the Olgas hike on Day 2 and Ayers Rock hike on Day 3. Our buses carry 60 litres of water on board and your guide will most definitely guarantee you will not dehydrate on the hikes. There are several points during the tour to fill up your water bottles. All meals are included on tour. Please note you do not need to carry empty water bottles that you can fill at the hostel in morning before the tour and you will be provided with water during the trip.

Effective 01/11/2013 Wataarka National Park close the clock wise hike if the temperature exceeds 36 degrees. The alternative hike is the anti-clockwise hike that does not include the Garden of Eden and a swim in the water hole. The Rangers at Wataarka National Park prefer you do not swim for safety reasons. The level of water in the Garden of Eden water hole may vary from season to season depending on rainfall.

Summer (Nov-Mar) it is quite warm at night, around 15-25 degrees Celsius and 35 degrees plus during the day. Winter (May-Sept) it is a lot colder, usually around 1 degree Celsius at night and 15 to 20 degrees during the day. June and July can get very cold at night, often below zero.

Summer (Nov-Mar) average over 30 degrees Celsius. During the peak of summer temperatures can reach 40 degrees Celsius or more. Winter daytime temperatures are pleasant, usually around 20-25 degrees Celsius.

Winter nights are often below zero degrees (May-Sept) so you will need a good sleeping bag. If you don’t have one of your own, you can hire one from us for $20.00. Ours are washed after every tour and are minus 10 degrees rated…nice and warm

Bring a small pack and leave your large pack at your Hostel if you are starting and finishing the tour in Alice Springs. If you are starting or finishing your tour in Ayers Rock (Uluru) you can store your luggage in our trailor during the tour. Shorts, T-shirts and good shoes during the day & a jumper for night time. Winter you can still wear shorts and a shirt during the day. However, you will need to bring warm clothes because it does get cold at night. Long pants, a good jumper, a beanie to keep your head warm and gloves are advisable. Regardless of the time of year that you are travelling you will need to bring a hat & sunscreen. Other things to bring include a towel, bathers, sunglasses, torch and toiletries.

A swag is made out of heavy duty canvas, sewn into a cocoon-like bag providing warmth, comfort and security - the ultimate of all bush beds! They have a 2 inch thick comfy mattress. You sleep inside your sleeping bag inside your swag so your body heat is trapped inside your sleeping bag and swag. A lot warmer than a tent!

We do have tents (without bedding) on the 2nd night at Ayers Rock Campground. Most campers choose to sleep in their swag under the stars as you do on the 1st night. We offer you a real Aussie outback experience sleeping in a swag under the stars. You simply put your sleeping bag inside & get cozy around the camp fire sleeping under a million stars.

If returning to Alice Springs, keep your larger luggage in your accommodation in Alice Springs & just bring a small bag on tour. If leaving our tour on Day 3 at Ayers Rock Airport, take all of your luggage with you. If being picked up on Day 1 at Ayers Rock Airport, you will have all of your luggage with you anyway.

Most people on our tours are between 18 to 45 years of age and International travellers. If you are young at heart & reasonably fit you will fit right in. If you travelling with kids - minimum age for kids is 9 years.
