We love the different ways New Zealand history is presented here. From the Museum of Waitangi to a Maori performance, you'll learn about the country in an interesting and engaging way.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Come and discover New Zeland history at the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. This is the place where Maori chiefs first signed their accord with the British Crown. This document became known as the Treaty of Waitangi.

Featuring the Museum of Waitangi, historic Treaty House, the carved meeting house and the world’s largest ceremonial war canoe, the Treaty Grounds are a great spot to discover New Zealand's fascinating history. Learn about New Zealand's most important historic site and enjoy panoramic views of the Bay of Islands. The Waitangi Treaty Grounds are an absolute must-do, rich in history and stories of the momentous events which shaped a nation.

This all-inclusive day pass lets you experience everything the Waitangi Treaty Grounds has to offer by day. You'll get access to all areas of the grounds including the Museum of Waitangi. Here you can delve deeper into the stories and artefacts behind this historic site. Stories of Waitangi are brought to life through world-class exhibitions, using state-of-the-art technology to offer a museum experience like no other. Learn about the history of Waitangi and its significance as a place to both Maori and non-Maori people. Learn about The Treaty of Waitangi through a fully interactive multimedia display and marvel at the taonga (treasures) on display.

Enjoy exploring the grounds with an informative guided tour with a local guide. As you explore the site, you'll wander through the iconic buildings and see breathtaking examples of Maori architecture. Be amazed by the world’s largest ceremonial war canoe and by the spectacular views over the Bay of Islands. There's also plenty of bushwalks around the site to enjoy.
