For those short on time, our amazing Fraser Island tour is the perfect add-on to any East Coast adventure. Uncover the fascinating history of this breathtaking tropical island, from the Maheno Shipwreck to the old Aboriginal folklore and the Indian Head, discovered by Captain James Cook in 1770. This beautiful volcanic island is also home to an incredibly diverse range of wildlife, including birds, reptiles and the giant saltwater crocodile! Check out the diverse landscapes and colourful sands as we off-road across the sand dunes and through the tropical rainforest on this incredible island.
Fraser Island, off the coast of Hervey Bay, is the biggest sand island in the world. Built on volcanic bedrock, the island itself is approximately 750,000 years old! These days the island is like a jewel in the middle of the turquoise ocean, with a diverse array of landscapes from tropical rainforest to sand dunes to freshwater lakes and a huge variety of Australia’s amazing wildlife, from swamp wallabies to echidnas, sugar gliders, bandicoots and flying foxes, as well as snakes, crocs and over 350,000 species of bird!
This amazing Fraser Island 4WD tour crams in all the incredible highlights of this beautiful island into one action-packed day! Enjoy touring the island in style in our A-C V8 Toyota Landcruisers as we go off-roading and speed from one end to the other. Our small groups mean that there are only ever 6 others, including our awesome guide, and that we can cram in more destinations than any other Fraser Island day tour!
Our tour starts bright and early, with 7:30am pick-up from your Hervey Bay accommodation. We hop on the ferry and enjoy the short cruise over to the beautiful Fraser Island. Make sure your cameras are at the ready as you capture your first glimpse of this tropical island paradise in the middle of the ocean! Upon arrival, you’ll meet our crew, hop into our new landcruisers and hit the road on this one-day adventure you’ll never forget.
Enjoy driving along the spectacular white sands of 75 Mile Beach (which also doubles up as a runway!) on our way across the island. Let our knowledgeable tour guides lead the way as we journey from one side to the other, uncovering history, getting off the beaten path and exploring the natural beauty of the area. Trek through the lush rainforest of Wanggoolba Creek, visit Central Station, explore the historic Maheno Shipwreck and experience the beautiful Pinnacles before enjoying a cool swim in the turquoise waters of Lake McKenzie and Eli Creek! After morning tea and a delicious lunch with bubbles and beer, we’ll even take you as far as Indian Head, named by Captain Cook when he first discovered Fraser Island in 1770, and stop off at the stunning Champagne Pools for a relaxing dip in a natural Jacuzzi!
After a truly unforgettable day of 4WD adventures, we take the ferry across to the mainland and head back to Hervey Bay, saying goodbye to the world’s largest sand island and snapping a few last sunset shots as we cruise through the ocean, keeping our eye out for any dolphins and whales that we might be lucky enough to spot! Our incredible day tour comes to an end as we drop you back at your accommodation at around 6pm.
