Built over a course of 10 years, Hiroshima Castle is a significant site that was established in 1589 by a feudal lord during Japan's Sengoku (Warring States) period. Although the original castle keep and several other structures were completely destroyed during the atomic bombing of Hiroshima in World War II, you can still feel the sense of time and history from the stone walls and waterways surrounding the monument.
The castle was rebuilt at the request of local residents and was renovated using traditional methods to reproduce the original structure. In this tour, you can relax as you cruise around Hiroshima Castle on a wooden ship called a 'Wasen' in Japan. The ultimate Japanese style ship, sometimes called a 'Wasen', is a spectacular vantage point from which to enjoy the passing scenery and panoramic vistas the historic Hiroshima Castle.
The castle is named for its many carps that swim in the moat interspersed with the mystical scent of its iconic cherry blossoms in full bloom and autumn colours, a symbol of Japan's most deep-rooted cultural and philosophical beliefs. You will get to feed the carps from the boat as you sail the canal. Characterized by the extraordinary variety of Japanese carps and unspoiled nature, you will have the opportunity to feel the richness of the four seasons in Japan.
After your cruise, you will go onshore to visit the castle. Inside the castle, there will be numerous opportunities to wear traditional weapons and armour like Yoroi (armor) and Kabuto (helmet).
