WHAT TO EXPECT

Get ready for 8 fun-filled and action-packed days! You'll see amazing scenery, abundant wildlife, and take in fascinating history and local culture. The tour takes you on a loop around the state, and your guide will share the famous local landmarks, as well as some unique insights and hidden surprises with you. You'll sample local products, see unique wildlife and explore the rich and varied surroundings that make Tasmania such a fantastic place.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Hobart - Strahan
Leave Hobart and drive through the Derwent Valley, travelling east to west across the island. You’ll see the beautiful Russell Falls, walk among the Mt Field National Park Tall Trees, and visit Australia’s deepest freshwater lake, Lake St Clair.

Explore the pristine Franklin-Gordon Wild River National Park and end the day in Strahan.

Day 2: Wild West Coast (breakfast)
In the untouched wilderness of Tasmania’s West Coast, explore the shifting sands of Henty Dunes that stretch for 15kms along the coast.

Afterwards, continue into the Tarkine Rainforest and walk to Tasmania’s highest waterfall, Montezuma Falls. This is truly an incredible sight. If you fancy exploring the rainforest by water, you can join the world-famous Gordon River Cruise (optional, at your own expense).

Later, after you've soaked up the stunning scenery, return to Strahan for the night.

Day 3: Cradle Mountain - Launceston (breakfast)
Around 950m above sea level is the World Heritage listed Cradle Mountain-Lake St Claire National Park. This is where your day begins! Choose a walk to suit you, and get exploring.

There's an extensive range of tracks, and you can choose to stroll around Dove Lake or challenge yourself with a hike to Marion’s Lookout.

After soaking up the scenery, it's a short drive through Sheffield, the ‘town of murals’, to Launceston for the night.

Day 4: Launceston - Bicheno
Make your way to the East Coast and the beautiful Bay of Fires today. If the conditions are right, this is the perfect place for a swim.

Later, Tasmania’s most scenic coastal drive takes you from St Helens to Bicheno, where you'll visit a wildlife sanctuary to meet the iconic Tasmanian devil.

Tonight, you may want to join an evening viewing of the Little Penguins (optional at your own expense and seasonal).

Day 5: Freycinet National Park - Hobart
An early start means you'll be the first to the Wineglass Bay lookout. Beating the crowds means you'll be able to snap that postcard photo. Wineglass Bay is among the top beaches in the world, so it's worth capturing the moment!

As you enter the bay, you'll be welcomed by a crescent of dazzling white sand set against a bright blue sea. With pink and grey granite peaks in the background, this is one of Australia's most beautiful natural environments. Relax for a while on the secluded beach here, or, if you're feeling like a challenge embark of the Mt Amos or Hazards Beach walk.

Later, continue further along the scenic east coast via the seaside towns of Swansea and Orford. Both are small, friendly towns with a quaint coastal air that adds to their magic. They're perfect for a quick afternoon explore. After wandering their streets, you'll continue on the road toward Hobart.

Day 6: Port Arthur Historic Site
After a quick look at Australia’s best preserved colonial village, Richmond, you'll head south to explore Tasmania’s ruthless convict past at the World Heritage listed Port Arthur Historic Site. The area was a 19th-century penal settlement and today is an open-air museum. Learn about Tasmania's convict history and here stories at what is on best-preserved convict sites in the country. Rich in visual history, you'll learn about the chilling life as a convict and can imagine yourself transported back in time as you explore.

A guided walk and harbour cruise are included today. You'll head back to cosy Hobart for the night.

Day 7: MONA and the mountain
Today is your chance to explore Hobart's gems!

First, head 1272m above sea level, arriving at the summit of kunanyi/Mt Wellington. From here, enjoy stunning views over Hobart and southern Tasmania.

Next, it’s the Organ Pipes track for the adventurous or, if you're after a more relaxed morning, head off on a guided sightseeing tour of the mountain.

After walking and wandering, it's time for lunch around Hobart’s waterfront.

Then, in the afternoon, heart to the unique MONA museum, now Tasmania’s most visited attraction. This is an incredible collection of old and new art, so get ready for an experience!

Day 8: Bruny Island
Located at the mouth of the Derwent River, Bruny Island is the home to unique wildlife like the white Bennett’s wallabies. There's also dramatic scenery and delicious local produce to enjoy here!

It's just a short ferry ride across the D’Entrecasteaux Channel to the island. Once you arrive, head to the spectacular seascape of Cape Bruny and the Bruny Island Lighthouse. Enjoy some coastal walking and take in breathtaking beaches as you explore this stunning island.

Later, end the day with local produce tastings of cheese and oysters. Yum!

You'll head back to Hobart, arriving at around 5.30 pm.

This is an 8-day tour, starting in Hobart at 7.00am and finishing in Hobart at 5.30pm.
