WHAT TO EXPECT
This is an action packed 4WD trip that combines an exciting drive with all the best of Macetown's history!
You'll start from Queenstown and head out on your adventure towards Arrowtown. Once you arrive you'll be shown the historic Chinese Settlers Village and the filming location of the Ford of Bruinen in the Lord of the Rings!
Continuing on to Macetown, you'll experience the first of 25 river crossings over the Arrow River! When you eventually hit the the Macetown track, you'll be passing through Soho Creek and Britannia Terrace where you'll see famous landmarks and hear stories about the history of the area!
Arriving in Macetown, you'll have the chance to visit the recently restored heritage site of Smith’s Bakehouse. You'll also be able to explore the gold mining settlement and learn about the history of Needham’s Cottage.
Your historical adventure continues with a visit Anderson’s Battery - the only stamping battery with an iron frame in Otago!
Afterwards, it's time to head back to the Arrow River to try a spot of gold panning! Immerse yourself in the history and excitement of the area and Nomad's guides give you tips and trick to find some gold!
Throughout your journey, you'll also have the chance to enjoy a true off road experience as Noma'ds guides navigate the rocky landscapes and winding roads in expert fashion. Strap yourselves in for the trip of a lifetime!
Tours leave at 8:00 am and 1:30 pm and take approximately 4.5 hours.
