We strongly recommend travel insurance to cover you if your trip is cancelled due to illness, poor weather, travel delays, cancellation or alteration of the scheduled itinerary, lost luggage or legal costs. Travel insurance may not cover diving accidents and treatment/evacuation. For that we recommend separate insurance with a company that specifically covers scuba diving.
Dive Assure also offers a rider which includes coverage specific to overnight experiences, including flight cancellations or delays resulting in missed departures, vessel mechanical failures, medical inability to dive, inclement weather (in addition to named storms/cyclones) and other incidents. A severe storm or named cyclone in the region may delay our departure or require the trip to be cut short or cancelled. If travelling in the cyclone season (December to April) we advise the purchase of (well prior the due Travel Date), insurance that covers force majeure events (being events outside the control of the parties, such as natural disasters).
Scuba diving and in-water activities are not covered by all travel insurance policies, and policy wordings should be read carefully. It is important to note that in the event a customer requires medical emergency services; the evacuation, medical, and vessel relocation expenses are at the financial responsibility of the customer. Please note that current liability insurance and current personal dive injury/evacuation insurance are prerequisites for the PADI Scuba Diving Instructor Training Program.
-
Minimum age 10 (if diver is under 12, we must be notified at time of booking as a private instructor will be needed)

When enrolling in an entry-level recreational diving certificate you must complete the following self-assessed medical declaration forms before starting your training. The forms are similar and both are a Queensland code of practice requirement.
-
Medical certificate if required
-
Ability to pass a 200m swim and 10 minute treading water test
Medical Declaration for Entry Level Divers
All scuba participants must meet medical questionnaire requirements. Some conditions or medications may prevent you from diving. These requirements can be found on our Can I Dive? page, and we strongly recommend reviewing before booking.
Queensland’s code of practice on diving states that for a single no decompression dive, you should not fly/go to altitude for at least 12 hours, or 24 hours if divers have had multiple dives per day for several consecutive days, or have made dives that require decompression stops.
Altitude is defined as 300m/1000ft above sea level. This includes going to the Atherton Tablelands (a popular local scenic attraction), so please be aware if booking tours to follow your dive trip. Under normal circumstances, you should be out of the water from your last dive of the day at 12 pm.
The operator will provide you with a partial refund if you fail your medical, as you will not be able to continue the course. You will still be able to enjoy the Great Barrier Reef as a snorkeller.
You can cancel the course on Day 1 or 2 with a reduced fee that covers training time and materials.
After Day 2, you have the option to switch to a different activity (i.e. snorkelling) to the value of the course costs already paid.
No refunds will be issued for any remaining balances.
Certain other tourist attractions around Cairns and Tropical North Queensland involve travelling to altitude. These include the Atherton Tablelands and the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, so we recommend a gap between booking these experiences and any dive course or trip.
Our overnight experience diving usually finishes by midday and our day trips by 2pm, which makes it easier to plan some down time between diving and flying/going to altitude.
