Can I bring a good camera?
Absolutely! The ride is generally dry though occasionally we will have some light spray. You will be instructed to keep good cameras covered and you do bring them at your own risk.
Can I go on the tour if I'm pregnant/have had back and neck probems in the past?
Due to the sometimes bouncy nature of the ride, people with bad backs, older people who are frail, and children under 5 years old are not to take our tour. Pregnant women are not allowed on the tours.
Do you provide transportation from my hotel or condo?
Can we go on land to see the Captain Cook monument up close?
Unfortunately, no. The coral reefs are so beautiful in Kealakekua Bay and in order to protect them, nobody will be allowed onshore. You will use your boat as your beach for the day.
Will there be bottled water on the boat?
No, but you are welcome to bring your own reusable water bottle. there are filling stations in the office and on the boat.
Can I use any sunscreen?
No, in accordance with The Operator's Kealakekua Bay special use permit regulated by the DLNR, only Reef Safe sunscreen will be allowed on the tour. There is reef safe sunscreen for you to apply at check-in, and also for purchase to have for the rest of your stay.
To know if your sunscreen is reef safe, check the active ingredients.
Good ingredients = Zinc Oxide/Titanium Dioxide.
Bad ingredients = Oxybenzone/Avobenzone/Homosalate/Octinoxate/Octisalate/Octocrylene/Nanoparticles.
