What better way to learn about speciality coffee than in a place where these great beans have been growing for over 150 years? Join Jen Green, a former lawyer and current interim CEO of the responsibly-sourced coffee company, Feel Good Cafe and Coffee Roasters in Phnom Penh, for a flavorful learning experience about tasting and appreciating coffee. Jen is a coffee professional with over three years of experience working in SE Asia to improve the speciality coffee supply chain. She is also a certified instructor and barista with the Specialty Coffee Association of America, and her love of coffee shines through in this class.
Understanding more about what’s behind your daily cup of coffee is a great way to give back to the community at large. Proceeds from your booking ticket go to support fair pay for local farmers in the process.
First, take a brief journey from seed to raw green coffee beans, the different varieties of coffee plants and where they grow. Jen will teach you about how coffee is harvested, roasted and ultimately how it lands in your cup at home. You’ll see how each coffee bean is roasted for the best possible flavour profile, creating your favourite drinks. Then, you’ll get to taste a variety of delicious foods, including bitter dark chocolate, sour lemon and sweet jam. This is to help participants identify flavours that can be used as a later reference when tasting the different varieties of coffee. Before actually tasting the coffee, you’ll have an opportunity to smell the intoxicating dry coffee grounds. The smell of our freshly grounded coffee will be enough to please your senses, but just wait until you taste it! Rich and bright, each with its unique flavor profile, this class and tasting will leave you wanting more.
You’ll have the delight of enjoying three different types of SE Asian speciality coffee -- including blends from Dalat, Luang Prabang, Laos and northern Thailand along with the Feel Good Cafe’s house blend. But if you’re looking to sip your coffee, this is not the place for you! Jen encourages participants to take half a spoonful and slurp it loudly from above, aerating the liquid in the process.
In this class, you’ll learn more about the difference in flavour between a "typica" bean from the Bolavens Plateau in southern Laos and a "bourbon" bean from Central Vietnam. Invigorate all of your senses and book your ticket for this class today!
